Yes, February. Since Doctor Zhivago is quite a long read, we will continue with it into January, when we will also be starting in on our new Doorstopper, Cervantes' epic Don Quixote.

As such, there will be no 'January Monthly Read' per se. I have deleted the December poll-related calendar entries, and we will pick up again with new nominations for February in January proper.

However, if you've been ruminating on a title, please feel free to drop it here. There's no reason not to. Some guidelines:

- One nomination per member, please. If you change your mind, please edit the post containing your original nomination.
- We will be setting some guidelines in the new year for book lengths for the Monthly Reads. For now, please try to keep your nominations to titles with -200-400pp.

Doorstoppers will be longer, as you can tell from the Dreiser and Cervantes.

I am determined that we will read this, so my nomination will remain the same until we select it :-)

The Sun Also Rises, by Hemingway (282pp)

If it's chosen, and there is sufficient interest, I will moderate an optional side read of 'Everybody Behaves Badly: The True Story Behind Hemingway's Masterpiece The Sun Also Rises' by Lesley M.M. Blume (373pp)

Lorri | 136 comments February is Black History Month in The USA, so I would like to nominate the 1937 African-American classic Their Eyes Were Watching God by the wonderful Harlem Renaissance writer Zora Neale Hurston.

I think I saw a date for posting the poll, but cannot remember where. At any rate I think it will be posted in a few days

A word of warning if Rebecca ends up being the selection: the only English-language edition I can find is abridged... so we will need to find a copy in the library or buy a physical copy.

There is no Like or tagging in Goodreads. The best way to get someone's attention is to click Reply on one of their messages.

Also hoping The Sun Also Rises wins! I will still moderate an optional side read of 'Everybody Behaves Badly: The True Story Behind Hemingway's Masterpiece The Sun Also Rises' by Lesley M.M. Blume, if it does :)

Replying to my own comment about Rebecca: the Kindle edition for $10.99 is NOT abridged. The reviews I read must have been for an earlier free or cheap Kindle edition. It turns out I already own the Kindle edition of this book and it is UNabridged.

Well, I finally gave up and set Zhivago down.

However, since it seems like Rebecca is going to be the Feb read, I have started it.

I think someone needs to get the folders up.

Rebecca is as fast a read as Zhivago was slow.

But maybe people are still involved with Don Quixote. I passed on that one.
