Suzanne | 349 comments I recently completed my own challenge related to the book Eight Perfect Murders by Peter Swanson. I suggest reading the eight mysteries plus one additional that are referenced heavily in the book. As a life long mystery lover, I have really enjoyed it. A few of these have been made into movies which are also referenced in the book.

The Eight Perfect Murders:

1. The Red House Mystery by A.A. Milne.
2. Double Indemnity by James M. Cain
3. Malice Aforethought by Francis Iles
4. Strangers on a Train by Patricia Highsmith
5. The Drowner by John D. MacDonald
6. The Secret History by Donna Tartt
7. The A.B.C. Murders by Agatha Christie
8. Deathtrap by Ira Levin

You should also read:
9. The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie

and then finish up with
10. Eight Perfect Murders by Peter Swanson

Thanks for this, Suzanne. Some of those I have read and forgotten (The ABC Murders), some I have heard about (Strangers on a Train) and others I don't know anything about. I do have a strong memory of The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and exactly where I was when I read the surprising ending. I will keep this in mind for Readathon time, as I imagine they are fast reads.

Suzanne | 349 comments Most of these are quick except The Secret History. I found a few new authors that I think I will read more of.

Milena (milenas) | 760 comments This sounds fun. Do any of those happen to be locked room mysteries?

I think the Red House Mystery fits. It has a really clever twist.

Ooha Biddala (oohabiddala) | 10 comments I actually did attempt this last June during housecupathon! Got as far as The Drowner and then exams happened.

Either way I was planning to use The Drowner for the monochromatic cover prompt now and then I'd be left with-
The Secret History
Deathtrap
and the book itself.

The Red House Mystery
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
are perfect fits

Malice Aforethought also has a similar vibe and takes an entirely different approach to it
