Let's recap our year doing the Monthly Key Word reading challenge! You can answer the questions below - or share anything you want ...

* Did you read a book every month? Which months did you - or did you not do?
* Which months / keywords were the most challenging to find a book to read?
* What was your favorite book read for the challenge?
* What was your least favorite book or genre that you read?

Any suggestions for us for 2021?

Yalonda (yalondade) | 80 comments I am so proud of myself! Other than December I have read my book each month and mostly on time :-) I am always challenged not by the words but my desire to have more than one word (so competitive) and waiting until the last minute to pick my book (so picky). My favorite book was "The Name of the Star" - love the Ripper twist. I just did not like "The House of Discarded Dreams." I honestly have no suggestions; this is my favorite reading challenge :-)

Cecil Huston | 230 comments * Read one every month! Tried VERY hard to find books I own either as physical books or ebooks, to thin out my library. (Either that or I build a bigger house!)
* Don't remember which ones I had the most trouble with, but December was hard, used "Of" for the title.
*I honestly can't remember which books I read for which challenge anymore, but one of my favorites was 1st to Die, The Women's Murder Club series.
* Probably my least favorite was "Connections in Death" by JD Robb. Reasons explained in my review.
My only suggestion is that folks include at least a short review or rating of what they read, so we can see what's worth putting on our TBR list.

I really like Name of the Star too.

1. I completed every month except for September.

2. September was a challenge to find a book which is why I didn't finish it.

3. Really enjoyed Silver in the Wood, Looking Glass, and Haunting of Tram Car 015

4. Unpopular opinion but I only liked Daisy Jones and the Six- I didn't think it was as amazing as everyone was making it out to be.

Loved this challenge and look forward to doing it again next year. One thing I might do differently is choose all the books at the beginning of the year - and change it if I feel like when the month comes.

1*** Didn't complete May and June - couldn't concentrate on reading those months - caught up in a pandemic funk.
2*** August was so the hardest month for me to find something that fit the challenge - but so happy I randomly came across When We Were Vikings which was pretty good.
3*** Faves included The Girl in the Tower (that series is sooo good).
4*** Least favorite - probably Night Shadow by Nora Roberts - I rolled my eyes too many times at the romance tropes.

I am doing the same thing! I started a notebook with a page for each challenge criteria that I’m following (Motif and Keyword), with title options I’m pulling (ideally) from my “already have” list. As you mentioned, I have the option of changing my mind when we get to those months, depending on what I feel like reading at the time. AND the bonus is at recap time, I’ll remember what I read for each challenge. ;) This is so fun, like an extended book club!

That might be an interesting idea - a virtual book club! Everyone reads the same book (chosen by the moderator) and we add to the discussion of the book after a specified date, in a specified discussion feed. I realize reviews are kind of like that, but more back and forth like a real book club would be fun. I know that those interactions help me see the story from different perspectives, and better enhance my understanding of the book for having participated.
