Kristie | 19160 comments Get ready to kick 2020 to the curb!....

It seem's that many of us are not sorry to see 2020 go and are happy to ring in a new year. Let's celebrate together YLTO style! We will be having a reading party on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Here's to 2021 treating us better than 2020 did. 🥂

**Please note that this is not an official toppler, but a YLTO party! Some of our rules have changed for this special event, so be sure to read the rules below.

Rules:
1. Books must be started and finished in the specified time period to qualify. This party takes place for 48 hours on December 31st, 2020 and January 1st, 2021 in your time zone! This means that there will not be a countdown to the event and we will not be reading at exactly the same times, but we will all have some overlap to our party attendance.
2. You may read any format - paperback, hardcover, ebook, or audiobook.
3. There is no page maximum or minimum for this challenge. If you read a book of any length that fits one of the Hello or Goodbye tasks during the party hours, then you have attended the party.
4. Any genre will count for this party - graphic novels, cookbooks, children's stories, they all count!
5. Cover items should be prominent.
6. Please do not use gifs throughout the thread. Some participants prefer not to use their available data to view them.

**In order to receive a badge, you will need to report with your WoF name in the reporting thread here.

👋🏻Later, haters! - ...a romance where the MCs initially disliked each other, a hate to love relationship.
👋🏻Hasta la vista, Baby! - ...the word "baby" or "babies" in the title.
👋🏻Arrividerci! - ...an Italian author or is set in Italy.
👋🏻Hooroo! - ...an Australian author or is set in Australia.

Hello 2021!!
🎉 Hola! - Read a book that... is set in Spain or has a Spanish author.
🎉Welcome! - ...has a sign on the cover, ie: welcome sign, road sign, etc.
🎉Nice to see you! - ...has glasses on the cover or an MC who wears glasses.

🎉What's up! - ...has something that you would find in the air on the cover (balloon, bird, airplane, butterfly, etc).
🎉Yo! - ...has an author with the letters Y and O in their initials or two words in the title start with the letters Y and O.

Party books can count toward the group theme read and/or the monthly or yearly challenge, if they qualify.

**Keep in mind that the monthly theme & challenge and the yearly challenge all end December 31st and the new ones all begin on January 1st. If you are planning to use a party book for the themed read or one of these challenges, be sure to schedule your reading accordingly.

That's all for now! Have fun storming the castle!

Jayme | 4522 comments Love it Kristie!!
Already have my book picked out for "What's Up" Bringing Nature Home How You Can Sustain Wildlife with Native Plants by Douglas W. Tallamy . Which is a perfect way to begin the new year because that is what I am planning on focusing on as we revamp our garden in 2021.

message 25: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59916 comments Woohoo!! Off to gopher. This will be a chance to use up some of those shorter books.

message 26: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5194 comments I have been meaning to read:
Every Heart a Doorway
I guess this is it.

Sarah | 18550 comments Ooh looks great. I'll spend some time next week gophering. I'm sure I have some booke that would fit.

message 28: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments This is so much fun Kristie!

Not yet sure what my new year's eve will look like but I'll try to fit a book in. I'll definitely go for a short one ;-) Actually, I've been considering buying The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse for a while. It would be perfect :) it has a farm animal (horse) on the cover, and the characters are also best friends I think (if you accept animals)

message 29: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19160 comments Nice, Jayme!

Esther, good idea. I need to go look at where I'm at in that series. I hope you enjoy the first one.

Peggy, I never considered animals, but sure why not. lol

message 30: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19160 comments I am up to Come Tumbling Down in the Wayward Children series. I can read that one for door on the cover, but I also have it pegged for a 2021 yearly task. So, I will start it as my second read on January first and hope to finish it on time.

Now, to see what I can find to read on the 31st...

message 31: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments I have a just because Book for the 31st- Evvie Drake Starts Over

Do you consider a horse a farm animal Perestroika in Paris by Jane Smiley or ducks? If so I’ll read that on the 1st. It’s due back at the library on the 3rd and I have it slated for a museum task.

I see you answered the horse question... sorry, should have scrolled first. Ok got my books.

message 33: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19160 comments No worries, Marnie. :)

message 34: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Hopper | 2423 comments I am going to read Sweet home by Joseph Zuko as my December 31 read, it takes place on New Year’s and has a sign on the cover. The second book for January 1 is also a yearly challenge book: Predator in the Keys by Matthew Rief and has an alligator in the story.

message 37: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19160 comments Good picks, Sharon. I look forward to seeing what you think of them.

message 38: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19160 comments I'm going with And Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer for "an MC who wears glasses." I don't need it for a challenge or anything. It is just something short to read so I can play along on the 31st and be ready to start my other read on the 1st. :) I planned to read it when we had the "home/house in the title" theme, but didn't get around to it, so I'm glad I'm able to use it for this.

I was happy to find one book for a hello task & one for a goodbye task.

I need to re-read that one so that I can move on in the series. I don't remember much about it.

I heard good things about it. Looking forward to it.

message 42: by Vicki (new)

Vicki | 1538 comments Oh fun! I'm going to say "Hasta la vista, Baby!" to 2020 with Riot Baby Riot Baby by Tochi Onyebuchi

message 43: by Jayme, Moderator (last edited Dec 18, 2020 03:14AM) (new)

Jayme | 4522 comments I'm not reading anything for 2020 - just want to see the year in my rearview mirror.

But look out 2021 -
Dec 31st - Bringing Nature Home How You Can Sustain Wildlife with Native Plants by Douglas W. Tallamy 🎉What's up! - ...has something that you would find in the air on the cover
Jan 1st - A Children's Bible by Lydia Millet 🎉Hey! - ...has a farm animal on cover or is set on a farm.

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments Oh, interesting! I'm working on the 1st, so if it's calm, I might do some reading!

message 45: by Ayacchi (last edited Dec 18, 2020 04:48AM) (new)

Ayacchi | 1724 comments I wanna do graphic novels! Hope I'll find anything fits the task. Also, I think I'm going to read The Miserable Mill for glasses. It'll be my first book for the yearly challenge 💪

Christina ❤️M❤️ (christir1159) | 1 comments I have picked a book for Saying goodbye and One for saying hello.

Dec 31- Stuart Little , I am reading it for best friends (so I am glad you approved animals). I have never read it, and I am so looking forward to it.

January 1- Lab Rat One for Australian author. It has been almost 2 years since I read the first one... Plus bonus, I was able to make it fit the yearly challenge.

I'm hoping for a relaxing New Years.

message 47: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19160 comments We've got some great books planned! I'm looking forward to this. :)

message 48: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11264 comments I'm starting to gopher only now. One question, is the event for 1 book, or 2 books (one for 2020 and one for 2021)?

message 49: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19160 comments You only need one book, Sandra. and you have plenty of time to gopher. I posted it early to give extra planning time.

message 50: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11264 comments Ok. Thank you, Kristie. That is what I understood but doubted when saw many people picking 2. I don't want to start the new year breaking the rules already! :)
