My sister would - it was her favourite book as a teen - but she's not at home right now. So this comment maybe wasn't the most helpful! sorry! :(

A quick google search showed me that this book has 5 parts and I think 63 chapters total. I’m not sure if that is useful at all. I don’t have a copy yet.
ok, more helpfully, I've borrowed an e-copy from the library

Can we somehow work in a worldwide casting call for someone to play Scarlett? Maybe the person over the year who has the best modern interpretation of "Fiddle-dee-dee"?

Welcome to January 2021!
Over January & February 2021 we are reading Vol 1, Part 1
From Wikipedia:
Part I
Gone with the Wind takes place in the state of Georgia during the American Civil War (1861–1865) and the Reconstruction Era (1865–1877). The novel opens on the eve of a rebellion in which seven southern states – including Georgia – declared their secession from the United States (the "Union") over a desire to continue the institution of slavery, which was the economic engine of the South. The story begins on April 15, 1861, on a plantation owned by the family of wealthy Irish immigrant Gerald O'Hara. The oldest of the three O'Hara daughters, 16-year-old Scarlett is willful, witty, and intelligent though uninterested in schooling. She is described in the book's opening sentence as "not beautiful" but in possession of a powerful ability to charm and attract men.

Happy new year!
I'm starting the audiobook from audible narrated by Charlton Griffin. I also have the kindle version on hand.
What version is everyone else using?

I've never read this book and I taught English to freshmen and seniors in high school; however, when my daughter (who is now also an English teacher and freelance editor) was in 5th grade she was reading it. I remember going in her room around 4:00 in the morning because I woke up and saw her light on and she was awake in bed finishing it. She couldn't put it down! Now it's finally Mom's turn!
Wow!
I have never read it (or watches the movie) so I’m really curious. Especially with the media around the movie last year

Before the second wave of Corona and my operation a couple of months ago I packed all my books in boxes to re-arrange my living room but wasn't able to finish on time. Now I have to wait until I can walk again to find the box it's in so I'm in but will start a little later than most of you.
I'm going to use an old German edition hardcover copy of this book that I picked up while secondhand shopping a couple of years ago. I bought it on a whim at the time because I'd only just watched the entire film (finally!) for the first time.
I'd always seen bits and pieces but never the whole thing because it is so so long . But a good one!

Just grabbed the book off the shelf and checked the publishing date. This is way older than I thought!
The book was published in English in 1936. This book was published in 1937!
916 pages :-)
(Thin and with a lot of text in fairly small print .)

Wow! Hope the small print is still readable.
I've got an edition from scribd so will be using that.

Over in the Cleaning out the closet challenge in 2018 we started talking...
Your know those MASSIVE books that you want to read, but everything else gets in the way?
Well we decided that perhaps the best way to tackle this problem is to pick a book and read it together over a year. So 2019 was the year of Les Misérables and 2020 was War and Peace!
After nominating books and then voting for 2021, the winner is Gone with the Wind!
Anyone is welcome to join. This is essentially an extremely long buddy read :)
There is a reading schedule below to show which books (chapters) to read over a two month period and we will also have two break months ; meaning the read will last the whole year.
To participate, all you need to do is come on over and give your thoughts for the section you are reading. Please make it clear which section you are referring to, and if you are reading ahead of the schedule, put your comments in spoiler tags.
1000+ pages? Meh! We got this! Let the Reading Begin!
