Cheryl Olson (girlsmama) | 694 comments Ok, this one is for those of you who are looking to do some type of "read through the Bible"
challenge this year. I will give you some suggestions below. I am going to attempt to do a tracker with this one, as I've found that the ESV Bible version breaks down each book of the Bible, so you can break it down that way. So even though you may not be reading the ESV version, you can track each book of the Bible that way= hope that makes sense.

Here are some suggestions for you, but some of you may have your own reading plans, so have at it. But if you have a different plan that you'd like to tackle, then you are free to do your own and just track what you do. Also, there is the "Big Kahuna in chronological order" for those that might be doing a chronological Bible reading plan.

Levels-

Pentateuch- The First 5 books of the Bible- Genesis, Exodus,Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy

The Gospel Truth level- Read the 4 Gospels-(Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) - 4 Books of the Bible

12 for 12- Read 12 books of the Bible- your choice, that's only one per month.

Oldies but goodies level- Just the Old Testament= 39 Books of the Bible

Newsies level- Just The New Testament- 27 Books of the Bible

Songs and Wisdom- level Psalms and Proverbs- 2 Books of the Bible

The Big Kahuna level - The Old and new testament in one year! That's 66 books!

The Big Kahuna in Chronological order- 66 books

Different Angles reading- choose to read the same books of the Bible in different translations. So for instance read the book of John in the NIV versions and then choose to read it in a different translation like the Passion translation or the NASB. How rich it is to study the word of God and learn as much as we can! You choose how many books of the Bible you would like to do that with.

If you need reading plan help Biblegateway.com -
has great reading programs to help you break it down day by day https://www.biblegateway.com

Here is the tracker for this challenge-https://www.goodreads.com/challenges/...

Who's in?

Jennifer (jennbehindthebooks) | 65 comments I'm in for the Big Kahuna! I am planning on reading all 66 books straight through (Genesis-Revelation).

Carissa | 479 comments I'm in for Newsies level- Just The New Testament- 27 Books of the Bible

message 4: by J (new)

J W (johnwozniak) | 15 comments I'm too busy to join, but HIGHLY encourage it. When I first got saved 45 years ago, I challenged myself to read 5 chapters at a sitting, at least once a day—sometimes 2-3—until I completed the Big Kahuna. Life changing. I recommend having a theme to watch for as you go through. One of my favorites is unselfishness. Behind the stories and commands, God asks us to be unselfish, to look outward, not inward. It's all through the Bible. It's a Good Read.

message 5: by Emma (new)

Emma Turner | 32 comments I’m in for the Big Kahuna!!

I agree a lot with John. It is a great idea to have a theme to work through. I also recommend while reading the Bible to find at least one thing that can help you throughout your day.

message 9: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Lane | 1 comments My personal goal is Big Kahana, but I started it in the middle of 2020 and I'm a good bit through the Old Testament, so for 2021 I'm gonna say Newsies.

message 10: by Angie H (new)

Angie H | 40 comments I am going for the Big Kahuna in Chronological order with a NKJV Bible. I've never read the Bible this way before, and I've never read this translation!

message 11: by Bonny (new)

Bonny (bonnybonnybeth) | 667 comments I'm going for Newsies, since I just finished the OT in 2020 after reading slowly through it chronologically over the past few years. My goal this year is to read the New Testament chronologically.

message 12: by Rachel (new)

Rachel So, after finishing the new testament books in random order last year, my Bible reading habit fell to pieces for the first time in several years mainly because it was a tough year and the hard task of disciplining myself to read what I don't find entertaining became much more difficult due to my mental health. Even my introverted self has found myself missing nonfamily people this past year; who knew that could happen? 😉 Anyway, I'm going to read my preferred books of the Bible in order to get the habit back again. So, that will be 12 for 12 level, plus a few more for a total of 14 (for now);, my choices, order up for grabs are:
1. Psalms,
2. Proverbs,
3. Ecclesiastes,
4. Romans,
5. 1 Corinthians and 2 Corinthians,
6. Galatians,
7. Ephesians
8. Philippians
9. Colossians
10. 1 Thessalonians and 2 Thessalonians
11. 1 Timothy and 2 Timothy
12. Titus
13. Philemon
14. Hebrews

I like that idea too! This year, I am looking for Jesus/salvation through the entire Bible!

message 14: by Brittany (last edited Dec 10, 2021 12:32PM) (new)

4. Leviticus
5. Mark
6. Numbers
7. Deuteronomy
8. Joshua
9. Luke
10. Judges

13. John
14. 2 Samuel
15. Psalms
16. I Kings

message 15: by Beth (new)

Beth (canadianbeth) | 248 comments I am going to try to read the Bible in chronological order, but using this website https://www.biblegateway.com/reading-... which takes just 61 days. I am not all that great at follow-up though, so it may take me longer than that. I have finished the first three days, however.

I am also hoping to read one Psalm a day; I did that a few years ago and am going to try again.

I also read Grace for the Moment by Max Lucado each morning. Last year I read his newer one, God is With You Everyday.

Beth - ;)

message 16: by Bonny (new)

Bonny (bonnybonnybeth) | 667 comments Actually, I just got another new Bible, so I think I'm really going to do the "Different Angles" challenge for "The Gospel Truth" level. If I get ambitious after that, I'll finish the rest of the Newsies level. Here are the four different versions of the Bible I will be reading:
The Thompson Chain-Reference Study Bible-NASB by Frank Charles Thompson The Thompson Chain-Reference Study Bible-NASB (traditional)
The Voice Bible Step Into the Story of Scripture by Anonymous The Voice Bible: Step Into the Story of Scripture (new translation)
The Word of Promise Complete Audio Bible NKJV by Anonymous The Word of Promise Complete Audio Bible: NKJV (audio Bible)
NIV, Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible Bringing to Life the Ancient World of Scripture (Leathersoft, Green, Red Letter Edition) by Anonymous NIV, Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible: Bringing to Life the Ancient World of Scripture (study Bible)

message 22: by Diana C. Kobylak (new)

Diana C. Kobylak | 14 comments Hi everyone! I am currently doing the Big Kahuna level and trying to read 5 chapters daily. I have the Bible app, so I listen to it. Last year, I used the Bible plan on the app where I would read about two Old Testament chapters, verses from Psalms and Proverbs, and one from the New Testament. However, I am learning more from the chronological reading.
I do like what Lil is doing and reading one book over and over during a month’s time. I might incorporate that as well.
Good luck everyone!😊

message 23: by Bonny (new)

Bonny (bonnybonnybeth) | 667 comments My audio Bible makes it very easy to listen while I'm commuting! Finished my third gospel today:
3) Luke

message 24: by Christine (new)

Christine Indorf | 392 comments I am looking for some Bible reading recommendation on what to read. I read the New Testament all the time but I need direction with the Old Testament. Right now I am taking a huge step and reading Revelations. John promises that I will be blessed if I read it so I am hoping so. We all need a little blessing. So anyone out there has a reading plan for the Old Testament or can direct me where to go I would gladly appreciate!!

Yes I You Version and haven't looked there yet I also heard of a Carry App that you can use. Need to take a look at it!

Jamie’s Reading | 2 comments I’m reading through the Bible again this year. I’ve used You Version in the past and it’s great. As a side note the “Glorify” is great for a daily scripture, prayer and meditation.

message 29: by Cheryl (last edited Jan 17, 2021 06:40PM) (new)

Cheryl Olson (girlsmama) | 694 comments I've found when I do read through the Bible plans for the whole Bible that I get too wrapped up in completing the plan instead of reading to learn, so I am shooting to do the New Testament this year ( slowly and Proverbs and Psalms.)

1. Ephesians (Bible #49), ESV

Jennifer (jennbehindthebooks) | 65 comments #1 Genesis

message 31: by Christine (new)

Right now I am reading thru Psalms and so glad that I am. Its been years since I have read thru the book of Psalms. Some books are harder than others, as we all know, but I want to get thru them all. Good luck to all of you out there and be blessed with the Word of God!!

Rachel Rachel wrote: "So, after finishing the new testament books in random order last year, my Bible reading habit fell to pieces for the first time in several years mainly because it was a tough year and the hard task..."

I'm not doing well with this challenge at all and am still reading Romans and not every day either during the months I've been reading it. I'm 4 books behind, and so, I'm reducing my goal from 14 (and my actual list from 17) to 12, removing the longer books to give me some hope of not completely failing this challenge.

1. Romans
2. 1 Corinthians
3. 2 Corinthians
4. Galatians
5. Ephesians
6. Philippians
7. Colossians
8. 1 Thessalonians
9. 2 Thessalonians
10. 1 Timothy
11. 2 Timothy
12. Titus

message 49: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Tillman | 1 comments I know what you mean about this year being hard! I read through the Bible, though don't put a time limit on it--too much stress! Usually takes me 2 or 3 years to get through both testaments. I have a Bible by my nightstand, and try to read something before I go to sleep. Sometimes I only get in one or two verses, but they say the last thing you see before bed stays in your mind while you sleep, so if it's Scripture, it's good!
