I just finished "These Truths" by Jill Lepore. It was a tome of a book but I learned so much about the sometimes cyclical nature of American political history.

I'm a high school English/U.S. History teacher and I found "These "Truths" staggeringly good. It's obviously better than a textbook, but I also enjoyed it a lot more than "People's History" or other similar critical histories. Her history of the last 40 years and the increasing disconnection between Americans and their political parties seems more and more relevant every day.

I may have stretched the limits of this challenge a bit, as I read The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs by Stephen Brusatte. Can we count millions of years as an "event?" Regardless this is a fascinating piece of science writing by an author who was able to create a narrative that will appeal to dinosaur-enthusiasts and the everyday reader alike.

Michelle Youll | 15 comments I read The Russian Revolution: A New History by Sean McMeeking. I normally don't enjoy non-fiction but this time in history is so fascinating. I thought the writing was well done and kept my attention throughout the whole book.
