description

The goal of this challenge is to use the first name or last name of an Author that wrote a book (more than 150 pages) you have read about between January 01, 2021 - December 31, 2021. The Author must correspond to a certain letter.

You can use books you read for other challenges. An author can be used more than once, for their name and surname, but you need to have read two books by that author. Total books to be read is 25 - 1 letter can be excluded at your discretion. It can be any one of them.

You can keep track of your challenge in this thread.

Wayne Jordaan | 825 comments Of all the alphabetic challenges, I find this one the most challenging, with X, Y and Q the major culprits.

Q I can manage, X too - I have found multiple Xaviers this year for some reason, but Y is a problem. And U is also difficult.

I always end up in the library staring at the shelves for these letters and hoping something is readable.

Yep. the keyword is readable. I have a couple of Umberto Eco lined up, so U is okay, I also have Kwei Quartey (Wife of the Gods) and Yan Martell Life of Pi) in the queue. Both new authors to me, and the reviews are looking good, so hopefully Q and Y will be sorted for the near future.

I love Kwei Quartey's books, you'll be fine. Not a fan of Life of Pi, but it is OK.

I used to read Yrsa Sigurðardóttir for Y, but don't have any to hand at the moment to deal with Y. I've got Chinese Cinderella: The True Story of an Unwanted Daughter for Y. I'm also finding more Y authors in my efforts to read North Africa/Middle Eastern books which helps.

V also seems to be a mission.

message 19: by Wayne (new)

Wayne Jordaan | 825 comments V is okay because of the South African/Afrikaans connection of the van's (van der Vyver, van Onselen, van der Post), Venter etc. Have you read any Vonnegut, I am going to read Catch-22 soon, but he was a busy novelist (14 books in all)

Haven't read Vonnegut, should try him sometime. I am probably going to settle for Santie van der Merwe this year! I have a few he books.

Maybe we could buddy-read Catch-22 later. Think I might pass on Santie van der Merwe.

Catch-22 sounds like a good idea. Let me see if I can find a copy.

Well done, Wayne. This one was really difficult this year.

message 28: by Wayne (last edited Dec 20, 2021 02:43AM) (new)

Wayne Jordaan | 825 comments I think I did fairly okay with the South African Challenges. Couple of books I could not get, still have an APB out for Sue Nyathi's A Family Affair, and now Pendragon. Hopefully I can fit it in in the 2022.
