I'm planning on reading The Lost Causes of Bleak Creek by Rhett McLaughlin

by Ava Mallory
CHALLENGE COMPLETE
You'd expect to find the occasional dead body at a nursing home, right? Mercedes aka Mercy is a traveling nurse assigned to a small town nursing home in Nebraska. Her assignment is to give 3 months coverage for another nurse that is out on maternity leave. On Mercy's first day, a visitor to the nursing home comes up dead, and all fingers are being pointed at the new girl.
It's quite the ride learning that most of the town is related to each other, as is a good many in the nursing home. But no one is willing to see who the real killer is, and Mercy is all about clearing her name.
I enjoyed the interaction of Mercy and the various residents at the nursing home, and I loved how 'Nubbins' addressed Mercy by using all the various vehicle makes and models instead of using her name.
Overall, this was a good book. If you love a good cozy mystery, this one is for you.

I read "Inkling" this month by Kenneth Oppel
I loved this book so much. Inkling is such a hero in this story and broke my heart to see what he did to save his friends. I actually cried.

Key Word: Never
Title: The Knife of Never Letting Go
Author: Patrick Ness
Challenge Complete
This is one that has on my bookshelf for a long time. I started reading and then noticed the movie was coming to our local theater that week. Parts of the book were crazy just when I thought things were going well for Todd and Viola things would change and not in their favor. I was a bit disturbed by the violence and despair of the book. I had original thought I would pass it to my niece but decided not to now and don’t plan on reading rest of series.

Title: The Lost Man
Author: Jane Harper
Challenge Complete!
Very much enjoyed this one, learned more about living in the Australian outback than from any of the nature shows!

Key word - Fly
Book -Lord of the Flies by William Golding
Decided to read this classic as never read it before. Honestly didn’t enjoy it, found it really hard to motivate myself to read it.

Book: Dear Justyce
Author: Nic Stone
Challenge completed! I read Dear Martin by the author a few years ago and this was a follow-up novel (but could be a stand alone if you haven’t read Dear Martin). Shorter, YA novel. The author addresses it in the afterword, but there were too many supports for the main character that aren’t realistic for most young African Americans in the justice system, so things end up neater than I think they would be in real life. I still need to read Dear Edward and will try get to that by the end of the month.

Title: Neverwhere
Author: Neil Gaiman
Challenge Complete!
Another great book by Neil Gaiman. Loved the world he builds in this novel and its strangeness, the characters and the plot twists.

This is what I'm going to read too - I LOVED this book and I can't wait to re-visit it.

Title: The Mercies
Author: Kiran Millwood Hargrave
Rating: 5/5!
I loved this book so much. It is very atmospheric and definitely a slow burn, but before I knew it I was well into the book and completely hooked. This book is about a very small village on a tiny, isolated island off the coast of Norway in the late 1600s. A storm comes and kills nearly all of the men in the village who are out fishing, leaving a community of women to fend for themselves.
Eventually, the government sends a man out to this island to supervise, and things start to spiral from there.
This book is about grief, loss, the bonds that bind us, and the dangers of being an independent woman in a time when that’s viewed as suspicious and inappropriate.
Cant recommend highly enough!

Read Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland by Patrick Radden Keefe. A compelling telling of the story of The Troubles. Despite having family from Ireland, I knew little to nothing about the story of Northern Ireland and The Troubles. Very glad I read it, epescially since I believe I probably wouldn't have picked it up if it wasn't for this challenge! Oh, and don't be put off by the length of the book, a ton of notes and footnotes at the end of the book (maybe at least 100 pages worth on the Kindle edition!).

Jewel
Autobiographies are usually not on my reading shelf, but I couldn’t resist this story of Jewel’s life. She has an incredible story to share.
I never thought about Jewel incorporating her song writing, poetry, and lyrics into her biography. It was really beautiful.
Surprisingly, her words about mental health were very therapeutic to me also.
This wasn’t a page turner for me, but I enjoyed it nonetheless!
*Side note: This month’s challenge was a difficult one! I abandoned several books. Did anyone else have difficulty finding a book this month?*

I chose the graphic novel edition of a great Rick Riordan book:

Sometimes, the graphic novel adaption of a book can't sum up the novel in under 200 pages. This one was really good, though!

Read The Book of Lost Friends by Lisa Wingate
I enjoy this author. I had the book in my TBR pile. It was good, but predictable.
