Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 510 comments I LOVE THIS CHALLENGE!

I am Vicki :) I've played this one at least twice, maybe more.
Favorite genres: Historical fiction/historical romance, cozy mystery, mystery, thriller/psychological thriller, romance/historical romance, fantasy
Book I am dying to read in 2021 is The Iron Raven (The Iron Fey Evenfall, #1) by Julie Kagawa The Iron Raven by Julie Kagawa
Hmmm...best book with a color...I'll say yellow-ish Landon & Shay: Part One Landon & Shay Part One (L&S Duet, #1) by Brittainy C. Cherry by one of my favorite authors: Brittainy C. Cherry

I'm super excited for this fun one!

Camilla | 1251 comments UNO! Yesss! *happy dance*

I'm Camilla from Finland, have played UNO several times, as well as other team challenges. My favorite genres are fantasy, horror, science fiction, thriller and nonfiction. I don't have any special dying-to-read shelf, but some I'm looking forward to reading, altough they've been published 2020, are Queen of the Unwanted by Jenna Glass and Smoke Bitten by Patricia Briggs.

Best books with color cover, uhhh... I usually end up reading some mediocre or even quite bad books just for the cover color. Let me see if I can find something that wasn't quite hideous...
Okay, for red cover, this was quite readable Ruby Red (Edelstein Trilogie, #1) by Kerstin Gier , as well as this one All the Gear No Idea A Woman's Solo Motorbike Journey Around the Indian Subcontinent by Michele Harrison . This was excellent Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
Blue: The Perfectionists by Sara Shepard Deep Water by Lu Hersey
Green (not especially enjoyable, but readable): Secret Things by Stacey Longo My 'Dam Life Three Years in Holland by Sean Condon
I know I've used this one for a yellow cover, but it was quite bad, so I don't recommend it unless you're really desperate The Voodoo Priestess of Cornick College by Kim A. Smith

Robynne Lozier Hi. I'm Robynne from Canada.

Last year (2020) was my first time playing UNO but I had so much fun!!! I dont have much in the way of all one colour covers this year. But I have lots of the right letters and numbers. I don't buy books based on their covers. I buy books that I actually want to read!!

Looking forward to signing up in 2 weeks.

It's now past 3 AM so I better get to bed. Ciao!!

Ravenclaw Library Books (ravenclawlibrarybooks) | 234 comments Hi. I'm Raven from Scotland

2020 was my first time playing UNO but I had so much fun.

Looking forward to signing up in 2 weeks.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 1505 comments Hello, my name is Lisa and I'm a Uno addict. This will be my sixth Uno and I can't wait.

I read anything and everything.. but at the moment I'm loving historical mysteries and watching Bridgerton has made me have a hankering for re-visiting some historical romance. That Simon is mighty fine!

Book I can't wait to read in 2021 - Kingdom of Shadow and Light (Fever, #11) by Karen Marie Moning .

Books with best colour covers - Now that would be telling.. but I have been saving this one up for Uno. - Dark Tides (The Fairmile, #2) by Philippa Gregory

Looking forward to signing up and playing and chatting with fellow UNO addicts.

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 569 comments Hello, I'm Keely from the UK.
I have played UNO for the past 2 years. I really enjoy playing however I haven't fully decided if I will join this year. I would really like to, but I am planning to move to Norway and I will hopefully be going there late February/early March (if I can travel) for at least a couple of months to get things sorted before the move is permanent. Anyway, because of this I may not be able to read as much as normal, but I will assess the situation in a couple of weeks when the signing up opens.

I will read most genres although anything with adventure or a bit of mystery and books that I really enjoy and can read quite quickly.
There isn't anything in particular that I desperately want to read, but I am looking forward to working on finishing a couple of series and even starting one or two.

I’m Sisa and I’m from San Antonio, Texas. This will be my 3rd year playing UNO, and I can’t wait!! I read a little bit of everything, but my favorite books are those with characters that are so real they never leave me. ☺️

Carrie (carriele1216) | 439 comments I'm Carrie from Pennsylvania. I've played Uno the last 2 years and think it's a ton of fun!

I'm a huge fan of mysteries and thrillers and like to read Nordic Noir in particular.

I just received a stack of new books for Christmas. My best friend and I have adopted (and slightly modified) the Icelandic tradition of Jólabókaflóð.

Looking forward to:

Little Cruelties by Liz Nugent
and
Squeeze Me (Skink #8) by Carl Hiaasen

Oh and I just finished
We Begin at the End by Chris Whitaker
We Begin at the End
by Chris Whitaker

I highly recommend him to every reader out there who enjoys fiction of any sort. His characters are some the best ever and all 3 of his books leave a lasting impression!

Tall Oaks by Chris Whitaker
All The Wicked Girls by Chris Whitaker

Anne (dagdvm) | 441 comments Hi! I am Anne. I first joined UNO last year and I had so much fun. I can’t wait for this year.
I read all sorts of books, my tastes are varied. I do admit to hoarding some books that I think will be good for the challenge - shortish, a quick read. But no, I can’t buy on the basis of cover color. Last year I used the lists of different colors on Goodreads and found a couple of good ones that way (and a couple of clunkers).
Last year I was still working and UNO increased my book numbers dramatically. This year I am retired (COVID induced) so I will have a lot more time available for reading. The sky is the limit!

Tara Kathleen | 1 comments Hi, I’m Tara from Canada. Just joined and have never done Uno but you all make it sound good. I’m a full-time working mom and my daughter and I are currently doing our work and school from home. I used to read on my commute to work but I enjoy working from home and hope I can keep it up after COVID. Finding new times like before bed to read. I read all types of books. Currently I’m working on the first in the Outlander series to see how true the series was to the books. Finding my way around the Good Reads site. Where are the guidelines for Uno?

Jessica Buzzard | 522 comments I'm so excited to join the UNO challenge!! I joined this group a bit back and saw your challenge from 2020. It sounds like a lot of fun. I read books from most genres, but HATE romance books. However, I don't mind branching out and trying something new. My personal challenge this year is 100 books, so I'm hoping the UNO challenge will help me knock some out :)

Sharon (sharon_alexandr) | 337 comments Hi, I'm Sharon from Pennsylvania. This is my third or fourth time playing UNO. I didn't meet my goodreads challenge last year (thanks COVID induced reading slump!) so I'm in desperate need of a team challenge to get 2021 off to a good start. I always read more when I participate in games like this.

Happy New Year everyone!

message 18: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephreadsnnc) | 183 comments Hello fellow Bookworms!!
My name is Stephanie, I am from a small town in North Carolina! This will be my fourth year doing UNO and I'm looking forward to something to distract myself from COVID related issues and for something to fill the silence as my kiddos do homeschool. I joke and tell everyone that when the kids started homeschool I got put into "Mommy Daycare". Spending most of the day sitting in my room or on the porch rocking away, so that I was not accidently walking into zoom meetings or being loud to distract from their learning. I usually read or catch up on whatever binge show seems to be the flavor at the time, UNO will spice up my time in "daycare" lol. I look forward to meeting my team and starting 2021 off in a fun way!

Sabrina | 341 comments Hi,

I'm Sabrina, and I love to read. I generally read about 15 books a month, but I just got a new job. I don't think my typical volume will be possible this year. I think I need to cut it in half and say 8 to be safe. I've participated in the UNO challenge the last two years. I'm absolutely addicted.

My favourite genres are rom-coms, rock romance, m/m and m/m/f romance, paranormal romance, and romantic suspense. As you can see, if it has some romance, I'll probably be reading it.

Some authors I can't wait to read in 2021 are Brenda K. Davies has two paranormal romance coming out in 2021 that I've already pre-ordered. As well as Kylie Scott's rock romance novella, The Rythum Method. I'll also be looking for books from Nicole Edwards, R.L. Mathewson, Dannika Dark, Kristen Proby, Kylie Scott, Sloane Kennedy, Jay Crowther, and Terri Anne Browning.

I'm not so good with colored books. I usually search them out as needed. Here are some from last year:

For yellow, The Bride Test (The Kiss Quotient, #2) by Helen Hoang -5stars, The Wing Girl by Nic Tatano -4stars, Emma by Jane Austen -4stars.

This year, I'm thinking The Totally Awesome Book of Useless Information by Noel Botham .

For red, A Taste for Red by Lewis Harris -3stars, Hell on Earth (Hell on Earth, #1) by Brenda K. Davies -4stars, The Royal Wedding (Crown Jewels Romance, #2) by Melanie Summers -3 stars.

For blue, A Humble Heart (Hollywood Hearts, #1) by R.L. Mathewson -3stars, Muffin Top (The Hartigans, #2) by Avery Flynn -3stars.

For green, The Kiss Quotient (The Kiss Quotient, #1) by Helen Hoang -4stars, The Royal Treatment (Crown Jewels Romance, #1) by M.J. Summers -3stars.

I did one UNO Challenge a few years ago. I like to read suspense, horror, young adult fiction, and dysotipan novels mostly. I don’t have a specific book I am looking forward to from this year. Mostly because I have so many books I want to read still.

Melanie (mvalente89) | 296 comments Hello, I'm Melanie from NJ and this will be my third time playing UNO. It's my favorite challenge of all the ones I've participated in and I look forward to it every year.

I primarily read romance (historical, contemporary, suspense, paranormal, you name it), mystery/thrillers, and urban fantasy. I read almost exclusively adult, not really into YA much anymore.

Here are a few of my most anticipated releases of the year, which thankfully all come out within the first few months of the year.

Across the Green Grass Fields (Wayward Children, #6) by Seanan McGuire Love at First by Kate Clayborn Act Your Age, Eve Brown (The Brown Sisters, #3) by Talia Hibbert One Got Away (Nikki Griffin, #2) by S.A. Lelchuk

Color cover tasks are always the most interesting trying to fill. Here are a few books I've enjoyed of each color (rated between 3 and 5 stars).

Blue
Don't Look (Pike, Wisconsin #1) by Alexandra Ivy Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks

Green
Well Met (Well Met, #1) by Jen DeLuca Phantom Evil (Krewe of Hunters, #1) by Heather Graham The Wicked Sister by Karen Dionne

Red

Allison Ann | 1245 comments Hi everybody. I'm Allison from Northwestern Ontario, Canada. I believe I started playing UNO in the second round and haven't missed one since. I enjoy planning my entire year of reading in one shot and then completely ignoring that plan and reading whatever I feel like. Therefore I have nothing specific to look forward to in 2021, but hope for lots of wonderful reads. I have one yellow cover book that I haven't been able to use for the last two rounds. I'm not a huge romance reader, so I'm not devastated, but it is very yellow and I hate to "waste" it for no points. :D
Because You're Mine (Capital Theatre, #2) by Lisa Kleypas
Other colours I will hunt down as needed. Love UNO, looking forward to another round.

Bonnie Brandt (sparkgirl) | 39 comments Hi, I'm Bonnie and I'm from the upper peninsula of Michigan.

I've never played UNO or done any group reading challenge before.

My favorite genres are: biography, classic fiction, social justice, science, history, and travel. I like to read pretty much everything but I usually shy away from romance and serial books. I really like to be challenged in what I read and get ideas of what to read (especially fiction) from all different places.

This year I'm really looking forward to reading The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

Cover color book recommendations
Yellow
Watership Down (Watership Down, #1) by Richard Adams The Girl With All the Gifts (The Girl With All the Gifts, #1) by M.R. Carey A Paradise Built in Hell The Extraordinary Communities That Arise in Disaster by Rebecca Solnit

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments Hi all! My name is Kaley. I believe this will be my fifth time playing UNO, and I've done a few other team challenges in other groups as well.

Contemporary romance is my favorite genre. I love a good mystery/thriller as well, I just have to be in the right mood for it (and I've mostly been trying to stick with happier titles over the last year).

I don't really have anything in particular I'm excited to read for 2021. I'm more hoping to find a good series or author that I haven't read yet.

A recent read that I loved that will fit into the yellow cover category is:
Beach Read by Emily Henry

ETA: I lied. I forgot that this book was coming out this year and I'm excited for this one:

message 46: by UNO Pixie, Our UNO Helper (last edited Jan 07, 2021 01:49PM) (new)

UNO Pixie | 1839 comments Tips to prepare for sign up

* Think about how many books you can read in a month.
There is no benefit in UNO to under-estimate because each team has a fixed number of books to read each month. It is best to be as accurate as you can so that your team doesn't finish the month early and then is bored for a week!. Have a look at what you read over the last 3 months, or for previous players what you read over last UNO.

* Do you want to be in a "chatty" team?
Consider your interaction on Goodreads. Do you want to log in at least every other day? If so you may want to select your preference for a "chatty team".
If you can only commit to checking the team once per week, a chatty team is not for you.
If you don't think you can make it onto Goodreads once per week (even if you haven't read anything) then UNO is not for you.

* Set up your UNO Shelf.
This helps your team captains check your books, and is also quite cool later when you want to see what you have read in UNO over the years. Goodreads help explains how to add a new shelf if you haven't done it before here

YOUR USER NAME IS VERY IMPORTANT
every year we have sign-ups that don't get this right. If you do not enter it correctly, we can not find you, which means you won't be placed on a team.

To find your user name:,
1. go to the desktop version of Goodreads. This means use a web browser on your tablet/phone/computer to go to www.goodeads.com
2. (sign in if required) Look at the top right hand side and you will see the far right circle that is your profile picture. Click on it, and then select "profile"
3. What you now see in the URL bar is not www.goodeads.com but instead your profile name. For example, this Pixie account shows www.goodreads.com/user/show/52624155-...
This means my user name is 52624155-uno-pixie
4. In the sign up form you will be asked to enter the number and the name separately (this helps with our formulas and to make sure people enter this information correctly). So my number would be 52624155 and my name would be uno-pixie

Jenny | 2346 comments Hi all!
I was just about to start Set My Heart to Five by Simon Stephenson , and then I actually looked at the cover. Perhaps I will wait a couple of weeks. Silly girl.
Last year I had a perfect yellow cover, and none of the characters fit the cards my team was dealt. For three rounds. Still haven't read it yet... The Regrets by Amy Bonnaffons ...maybe this year?

Paulette, I second your call for a bunch of five star reads. I ended this past year with some good ones, and I have started this year pretty well too. I do too many challenges for that to last, as I am very much a "take one for the team" person, so there are some one stars in my future as well, but I can hope!!!!!
