Awesome! I'm honestly really excited for this because I've heard good things, but it's going to take me forever to get a copy of it from the library. If I have to wait this long, it must have something going for it right?

Anyway, I’m about 3/4 of the way through Guest List and it’s getting exciting! I’ll keep you posted, it’s a fun one.

Yes please let me know. I think I'm like 20th in line or something. I think the longest queue I've ever seen for a book was roughly 100 for Where the Crawdads Sing--which I did not like, so go figure. I just used an audible credit on The Girl with Seven Names because I couldn't get the audio from the library. I actually prefer to listen to the audio while reading the physical copy of the book. I have to do both or my comprehension is next to nil with audio, but audio allows me to read more in one sitting. My eyes don't get tired and with headphones in I can zone things out better--I generally have a kid on the computer and a husband on a video game in the same room lol. It used to take me forever to finish a book--roughly a month for a novel--where now it generally takes me a week.

I finished The Guest List. Overall, it was definitely a fun, fast read, but the ending was a little underwhelming. A murder mystery during a wedding IS a fun concept though, so I'd recommend to anyone who likes to breeze through good thrillers.
I liked The Silent Patient more. If you have any recommendations for a mystery/thriller that's a little more thought-provoking, do let me know!
I liked the complexity of the Silent Patient.. maybe that's what The Guest List was missing for me - more complex characters.

It makes me realize that maybe it's not necessarily that I prefer one genre of writing over another, but the complexity and depth of the characters. It's why some fiction is completely forgettable - if there's nothing challenging or exceptionally unique about the characters, what's memorable about it?

For me, I think the biggest factor on whether or not I like a book is pace. If I get bored, it's not a 5 star book. I'm fine with character development being in depth but I feel like there's a right way to do it. Don't bore me to death for the first 100 pages by only describing surroundings and characters. Give me something to work with so that I want to read more about the surroundings and characters, you know? I also like a book that let's me peek behind the curtain but never gives me a full view until the end. Agatha Christie is great at that.
I think my favorite romance is The Rosie Project. It hit close to home because my son has autism and the major character has Asperger's--a bit different but relatable. It made me laugh a lot and it wasn't cringeworthy. It was very sweet in my opinion and I have nothing but fondness for it. I hate ridiculous love stories and instalove. I prefer a slow burn, or an enemies to lovers type thing.

I finally got a hold of a copy of this from my local library! It was such a page turner! So good! Once I got into the thick of it, I think I read it in three days. At one point I had two hours left on the audio and I was determined to finish it in one sitting. I just had to know!
