so sorry for the delay in getting these up!

Read up until the end of part two, which in my copy ends on page 74 on the words "at the wild stars", and then come back here to discuss!

Has this book started off differently than you expected?
What do you think of it so far?
Any early predictions for the plot?
What do you think of all our different characters at the moment?

Monika | 8 comments This has been a wild ride.

It has started way differently than I expected. I thought we were going to get a slower and atmospheric beginning just as in the previous two books, but the action hasn't stopped for one moment. Although this is fast-paced and interesting, I miss the slower pace and spending time with some of the characters, especially Vasya.
As for other characters, I hate Konstantin with a passion. I wish somebody would just shut him up.

Sara (pagesandprose_) | 10 comments I'm already really loving this one.

The entire situation leading up to the burning was so intense, and I knew what was going to end up happening to Solovey because of the prophecy from the domovoi earlier, but it was still super heartbreaking. I love how Konstantin has just become a full-fledged bad guy now (I was always kind of holding out hope that he would still just be a sad, confused character). I still find him really interesting, especially reading from his point of view where he's basically given up on God and Christianity, but is instead wholly using it to influence people now. I'm also glad that the Bear is back, because I was going to be a bit disappointed if his story was going to stay neatly wrapped up from The Bear and the Nightingale (also, we get zombies again, which I love).

I was hoping that Vasya and Marya were going to get a little more time together besides just the brief moment in the horse barn, but at the same time I like how fast-paced this first section has been.

I can't decide how I feel about Varvara and her plot twist. I like it, but at the same time it feels so out-of-the-blue considering a sister was never talked about when it came to Vasya's grandmother.

I'm very excited to see where this goes, between Vasya traveling through Midnight's path, the story behind the Bear and Morozko's bargain, not to mention how the Bear is going to be handled now that he's loose and how Konstantin is doing his bidding and can manipulate people so well. This third book already feels like it's going to focus much more on the fantastical elements of the story than the previous two, which I'm excited about. I liked how The Bear and the Nightingale kept it subtle enough that it felt like a folk tale, but I think it's fitting for the finale of the story to really focus on the spirits and creatures.

Hanan | 9 comments this book started with so much happening omg not my fave fictional horse dead ALREADY, like I knew it was coming but so blunt, so quickly :'(.

I have decided unfortunately to unstan sasha at this point bc he is so rigid in his morality (I get it you dont wanna lie or forsake your vows) that others start to pay for it, like bro you cant tell a white lie for your sister??? Konstantin almost had her burned! But instead you give the grand prince less reason to see him as a threat and distance yourself from your source of power too (being advisor to the grand prince).
Olga stays being a bad b and I love her, she is always trying to protect her family as best she can and I wished she got the support she deserved from her brother or her husband.

the fact that I can tell Konstantin is gonna be a larger player in this book... your honour pls I thought I was done with this creeper. Maybe this means we get a big death scene? We are already getting more magic and I cant wait to find out more about this Midnight place!

I didnt enjoy book 2 very much so I'm so happy that I'm already so invested and pulled in by this story.
