Ariane (ariane18) | 2 comments Wow I’m shocked it was the best one in my opinion. 5 stars.

Sara (pagesandprose_) | 10 comments It only took three books for people to FINALLY give Vasya the respect she deserves instead of chastising her for basically saving their lives. I did really appreciate the conflict of Vasya and general womanhood during this time period, but hot damn it got frustrating at times.

I really loved having Vasya team up with Medved. That was quite unexpected, but I'm much more satisfied with that turn of events than I was with him just being imprisoned again. It also just made the final battle that much more exciting,

I think that the firebird is a great character, and I love how sassy she is, but my goodness I was happy to have Solovey back. I'm not one who typically likes having characters brought back from the dead (it has to be done in a way that requires great sacrifice from another character in order for me to be satisfied with it), but this horse is an exception.

I did predict Sasha's death, so I wasn't surprised at all with that and I felt like it almost had to happen. I do wish that we got a bit more closure with Marya at the very end, and I wish we got a scene with Vasya visiting Irina and Alyosha, especially since she mentioned that she was wanting to see them again.

Overall, I enjoyed this series a lot. I still think the first book was my favorite, and I think it's because there's minimal politics in it. Usually I love fantasy politics, but for some reason I much preferred when it wasn't at the forefront of this story. I think The Bear and the Nightingale just really set the tone for me in terms of having a rural, small community folklore feel, so when the story expanded the political side of things didn't fit quite as well in the atmosphere that I already had locked in my head.
