Where I will put my recent reads and what reading I have given them.
I’m not a big reader but I want to make the most of the third UK lockdown.

This list would just be simple.

1. The Thursday Murder Club (Thursday Murder Club #1) by Richard Osman

2. Dombey and Son by Charles Dickens

One of my favourite Dickens, hope you enjoyed it.

I read it last year. So many great characters. Dickens develops great sympathy for flawed characters in this book. As a father of two wonderful daughters, the father-daughter relationship in this novel is heartbreaking. Critics have suggested that this is the first of Dickens as a novelist, because all elements contribute to a complete, large and somewhat complex, but cohesive whole. Dickens is great at creating scenes and episodes, but he runs the risk of inserting irrelevant or superfluous side stories and characters who may be great fun, but might not add to the story being told. It’s part of the richness that we love about Dickens, but it’s great when everything ties together. I love all of Dickens, and Dombey is very special, although not my very favorite.

If you enjoyed Dombey and Son, I would recommend Little Dorritt and Great Expectations. I did my English dissertation on women in all three of those novels.

I have read sections of Great Expectations for school but I hope to read it in full soon. I will definitely check out Little Doritos though. Thanks for the recommendation.

I did like it, took me a while for it to get interesting but I’m glad I stuck with it.
