Winter Bucket List Challenge

For those of us in climes where the weather has turned cold, here's a list of (mostly) fun activities to help banish the winter blues. Cuddle up and read or bundle up, venture outside and play in the snow. Join the challenge even if it's warm where you are. Most of the tasks do not require snow.

Rules:
Do as few or as many as you'd like.
One task per book.
Must be at least 125 pp.
Post covers when the task requires it.

Tasks:

❄Drink Hot Cocoa or Mulled Apple Cider
Nothing warms you up like a steaming cup of cocoa or spiced apple cider. Read a book with a hot beverage on the cover.

❄Bake a Batch of Cookies
Baking cookies fills your home with a wonderful aroma and you get to eat cookies at the end. Read a book where the MC bakes.

❄Have a Pajama Day
It’s a luxury to be able to spend all day in your PJs. Put on your most comfy pair and opt to watch movies, play games or just eat lots of yummy food. Read a book where the MC takes a break. (ex: enjoys a spa day, leaves for a weekend getaway, takes a vacation, goes on a retreat)

❄Spruce Up Your Space
Winter makes a great time to do some home improvement. Since you're probably spending more time inside anyway, take the opportunity to tackle that project you've been putting off. Read a home improvement or interior decorating themed book.

❄Stick to an Indoor Exercise Routine.
Take advantage of streaming videos, find a style that suits you and make it easy to work out at home. Read a book where a primary character exercises. (ex: jogs, swims, yoga, aerobics)

❄Watch a Movie Marathon / Binge Watch a TV Series
Some days just call for TV. So pop a big bowl of popcorn and cuddle on the couch with a blanket. Read a book that was made into a movie or tv show. (Can be any book in the series.)

❄Have a Game Night
For some old school fun, turn off your devices, gather around a game board and have a game night marathon. Read a book with a night scene on the cover OR read a book set or published in the 20th century before the internet - between 1900 and 1990.

❄Buy Yourself a Treat
When the winter slog has you feeling down, treat yourself to lift your spirits. Read the next book in a favorite series or a book by a favorite author.

❄Try a New Recipe
A fun activity that also tastes great. If you aren't usually much of a cook, here's your chance to learn. Culinary enthusiasts, challenge yourself to a new recipe or different cuisine. Read a culinary themed mystery.

❄Dance It Out
Shake off those winter blues by turning on the tunes, cranking it up loud, and getting your groove on. Read a book with a scene where the MC dances and/or where music is played.

❄Catch a Snowflake on Your Tongue / Make a Snow Angel
Awaken your inner child and try catching a snowflake on your tongue! Or have fun plopping yourself right into the snow. Read a book with snow on the cover.

❄Make a Winter Wreath for Your Front Door
Get creative and make a wreath with pine cones and evergreens to hang on your front door. Read a book with a door on the cover.

❄Go Sledding or Take a Hike
Getting out into the fresh air will lift your spirits, even in the cold weather. Sailing down a snowy hill is the perfect blend of exciting and terrifying. Or grab your boots, bundle up and take a walk in the woods. Read a book where the MC walks somewhere (to the store, library, work, friend's).

❄Do the Polar Bear Plunge
The Polar Bear Plunge is an event where you submerge your entire body into a chilling water, typically to raise money for a charitable organization. Read a book with a body of water on the cover.

❄Clean Out & Organize Your Closet
It is surprisingly rewarding to be able to purge some clothes, plus as a bonus, you can donate or consign them. Read a book with a clothing or fashion theme.

❄Knit a Scarf or Crochet a Hat
Add a splash of color to your winter wear. Scarves make easy projects even for beginners and can be worn in a variety of ways. Hats are quick and easy to crochet. Read a book with a craft theme and/or where the MC crafts.

❄Write a Thank You Note to Someone Who Deserves It
Write a thank you note to show your appreciation for a job well done. Read a book where the MC thanks someone or shows her/his appreciation to another. Tell us what it is.

❄Find Your Favorite Tea
Make yourself a cup of tea, grab a comfy blanket and cozy up with a good book. Read a book with the letters T-E-A in the title. (Letters do not have to be in order. Series name not included.)

❄Read by the Fire or Light a Candle
Reading a good book by the fire or enjoying the aroma of a scented candle soothes your mood and makes your home spell wonderful. Read a book with a fire, flame or candle on the cover.

❄Put Together a Jigsaw Puzzle / Solve Brainteasers
You’re indoors and it’s cold outside. Make the hours slip by completing a jigsaw puzzle or solving brainteasers. Read a book that puzzled you, i.e., where you DID NOT guess the perpetrator.

❄Visit a Museum
If it's safe enough in your area to visit public spaces, take a trip to a local museum. Or visit museums online all over the world! They make perfect indoor playgrounds for inquisitive minds. Read a book with a scene in a museum, theater, or at a concert OR with a primary character in the fine arts (ex: artist, musician, novelist).

❄Volunteer / Give Back
Giving back can make you feel good about your own life and put your circumstances in perspective. Donate warm gloves, socks or jackets to a homeless shelter. Donate to a food bank. Read a book where a primary character volunteers his/her time or donates to a charity or community organization.

❄Make Homemade Soup / Bake a Loaf of Bread
There’s nothing quite like a warm bowl of soup on a cold winter day. So stir up one of your favorites and enjoy it with some crusty bread. Read a book set during winter and/or in a cold climate.

❄Watch a Sports Game
Get your adrenaline pumping by watching a sports game. Read a book that is fast-paced OR that held you in suspense OR kept you guessing.

❄Perfect Your Chili Recipe
Chili is one of the most loved dishes in the winter season. Now is the time to perfect your recipe. What's your flavor - hot, spicy, sweet, robust, meaty? Read a hot new release - a book published within the last 6 months.

Duration: 3 months from start ... more or less 😉

Goal: Set your own reading goal. Tell us how many tasks you plan to complete.

To participate in the challenge, copy and paste the tasks list on this thread. Your name in msg 3 will be a link to your post. Edit your original post to update your progress. Also post an update when you reach a goal or to let us know how you're doing.

Primary/prominent characters appear in several scenes in the book. May be the sleuth, sidekick, victim, detective, coworker, significant other, family member, etc.

Watch a Sports Game, the book can be fast-paced OR hold you in suspense OR keep you guessing. It does not have to be all three.

Visit a Museum - Read a book with... a primary character in the fine arts. The fine arts are architecture, painting, sculpture, music, dance, cinema and literature.

Books used in this challenge may also be used in other challenges.

Ideas for this challenge came from two articles. There are more activities listed here:
