Jo | 37 comments I have been allocated five countries in 2021 and plan to read the following:

1. Swaziland (Eswatini): When the Ground Is Hard by Malla Nunn (completed January 2021)

2. Guinea: The Black Terrorist by Tierno Monénembo

3. Rwanda: Baking Cakes in Kigali by Gaile Parkin

4. Congo (capital Brazzaville): The Death of Comrade President by Alain Mabanckou

5. Zambia: The Mourning Bird by Mubanga Kalimamukwento

I'd also like to try and read the two countries that I didn't get to last year as part of the 2020 challenge:

Ghana: Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi

Kenya: still to decide on which book for this country...

Carolien (carolien_s) | 524 comments I read The Black Terrorist in 2019 and it was fascinating. I enjoyed Baking Cakes in Kigali and Homegoing is amazing. Good luck with your challenge!

Orgeluse | 481 comments I can also highly recommend Homegoing!

Jo | 37 comments Thanks for the recommendations! Perhaps I'll read Homegoing sooner rather than later. Am disappointed I didn't get to it last year...

Jo | 37 comments I only managed to read one of my books for this challenge in 2021. If this challenge is still taking place in 2022, I'd like to try five countries again and see if I can improve and stick to my goals.
