Cris McGough | 6 comments Well, I don’t like poetry. I really don’t like free verse. However, there was something very gripping about this story. I didn’t care for the language but the story was good. 3 out of five.

Brandy Otto | 9 comments I was confused at the beginning of the book. However, I loved how it all came together in the end. I really loved the book. I'm not sure about my students though. I give it 4/5.

Christy | 8 comments Novels in verse are not my go to pick for books, but I found this one very easy to read and it kept me wanting to know how the two girls lives would intwine. 4/5

Tamara (tamarasan) | 10 comments I've read everything Acevedo has put out and I know that she really connects with teens as her work has been on several teen book list winners. She did another great job with this one. I always suggest listening to novels in verse because they're more impactful that way. 5/5

Alysa Fenner | 17 comments I really enjoyed the journey this book takes the reader on. I feel like it covers grief very well, and even shows how sometimes when we lose a loved one, we find out about Secrets they had which isn’t always a bad thing! 5/5

Heather Peters | 18 comments As always, I LOVE Elizabeth Acevedo. Interestingly, I have heard a lot of real-life stories of this type of split family just recently and made me realize just how important it is to represent this lifestyle for our students.

4.5 out of 5.
