Jaye Card (jayecard) | 6 comments What is LiteraTea?

LiteraTea is a reading community living primarily on Discord. We love books of all kinds, and would be happy if you joined us! Anyone is welcome, no matter what age, gender, nationality or what kind of genre of book you read. We share quotes and recommendations, and find other bookworms for buddy reads. We're waiting for you!

Jaye Card (jayecard) | 6 comments What is Discord?

Discord is a free platform to chat, hang out, and meet people. On Discord, you can join servers that have multiple text chats split by topic. You know how in your group chat you wanna talk about this new book you read, but someone is having a heated discussion over the right way to eat spaghetti? No problem in Discord, just go to the channel named "books" and talk about the book there! There are also voice channels, where you can talk via mic - but don't worry, no one is ever obligated to use them if they're not comfortable with it. On the other hand, if you're feeling really bold, Discord also has video chat, and you can even stream your screen. And you can make costum emojis too!

Not sure yet? Just join the server - you can use a guest account without entering any kind of information, not even an email address. And if you like it here, you can always claim the account and make it a "proper" one. Discord is available as an app for pretty much any OS or phone, but you can also just use it in the web to give it a shot. What I'm trying to say is - come say hi! We don't bite, and neither does Discord ;)

Jaye Card (jayecard) | 6 comments Do you have buddy reads, book of the month, challenges, etc.?

On LiteraTea, everyone is free to start a buddy or group read. We don't have a book of the month per se due to everyone having different preferences in genre, but you can always find a group to read something together at a specific time. Any user is also allowed to organise a group discussion if they want to, even in voice chat!

LiteraTea also has monthly recommendation themes and either reading prompts or reading challenges. While we don't do it every single month so we don't run out of steam, we try to adjust it to demand, and keep it varied (so it isn't just a random same-y prompt list each month). All users are also free to suggest their own prompts and challenges!
