Furciferous Quaintrelle Bex (bad_girl_bex) | 17 comments Never really thought about it. But I did read 'The Broom Of The System' from beginning to end all in one day. Last month I think. How many pages is that. 450? I also read the whole of 'The Secret History' in a day recently. That was 559 pages. That's probably about my limit, based on my starting reading first thing in the morning, pausing briefly to sort out lunch & dinner/have bathroom breaks and just spending the entire day reading. I imagine I could read more, but the longer books seem to be - especially DFW-esque metafiction - the more one needs to take time to mull over all the greater themes; to pick up and process all the little Easter eggs in a sort of literary treasure hunt. So while I might be physically/mentally capable of reading more pages, it probably wouldn't have the impact that a slower, more methodical read would take.

Still, 559 pages isn't bad. 'The Secret History' is an immensely readable book and very hard to put down once you begin. Not hard to plough through it in a day at all.

The fear of spoilers is real! I am even wary about watching movie trailers because they show too much of the movie.
