Sorry, guys - I mentioned at the top that I don't know the genre. I don't remember whether the romance is the whole story or just a tiny part, so can't say!
Unfortunately, I haven't read Pretty Things by Sarra Manning (according to Goodreads as well as my book log), so I'm going to have to rule that one out. Thanks, though!

No idea. I was young enough that they seemed pretty old to me, but that could've meant they were 15 or 25....I'm confident you can find this, @rainbowheart. I believe in you!
No, unfortunately, those books all look too new. And I don't think the couple is friends with benefits; I think they were just friends and then one day they did hook up, but I feel like that was near the end of the book and that they likely began dating at that point.
There are also quite a few friends to lovers lists!Might want to explore this tag. Mostly newer books, though.

What I remember is that a boy and girl (or young man and young woman) were best friends and longtime napping partners, back to back. Near the end of the book, one of them decided to brush their teeth before the nap, and they ended up hooking up. I can't remember whether the MC brushed their teeth and wasn't sure why, but that's how they knew they themselves wanted to hook up, or if the other character brushed their teeth and that's how the MC knew that person wanted to hook up....
I read it in probably the 90s or 00s, but I don't know how old it was at that time. I wish I could tell you more; alas.
