Kirsten (kmcripn) I nominate The First Sister (The First Sister Trilogy, #1) by Linden A. Lewis The First Sister by Linden A. Lewis

From the description:

Combining the social commentary of The Handmaid’s Tale with the white-knuckled thrills of Red Rising, this epic space opera follows a comfort woman as she claims her agency, a soldier questioning his allegiances, and a non-binary hero out to save the solar system.

Julien has to make decisions about his life.

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 220 comments I re-read most of the Miss Fortune series and realised once again many of the books deal with this topic.
For those of you not familar with the series:
Fortune Redding a government assassin was betrayed by a mole at the CIA and her boss sent her to a fictional small town near New Orleans, Louisiana to pose as his niece who just inherited her Aunt's estate. Unfortunatelly for everyone Sandy-Sue (the niece) is a former beauty queen, knitting, librarian sort of girl whereas Fortune has one inch short hair, not one domestic bone in her body, the only use for knitting needles as weapons and the worst luck in the world (trouble manget is one of her names *grins*).
In the first book less than five minutes after her arrival the ancient hound dog she 'inherited' dug out a human bone from the bayou behind her house and her Aunt's best friends roped her into helping them clear the name of their friend and there're so many mishaps along the way it's hardly possible for her to stay under the radar - especially since the hunky deputy took personal interest in her.
At the surface it's a very light, fun cozy mystery but if you look closer there's a lot of soul-searching going on and a great deal of (life) decisions the characters have to make (mostly Fortune but not only) and those pull her/them in many different directions.
