user | 1 comments Hello all I am looking for the name of a book I read many years ago and I can not think of the name. The book was about a young woman (I am not sure if she was a widow or abandoned ) who had lost her baby and ended up being a wet nurse for the hero’s infant child. The hero had lost his wife in child birth. The book was set in a time period that was before the regency period because the hero carried a sword ( so maybe it was a viking / medieval time period) I know this isn’t a ton of information but that all I have to work with :(
Thanks in advance to anyone who can give me the book name

Welcome to our little corner of GR.

Sorry I don't know this one, maybe someone else does.

I don't know that particular book, but if you are interested in the same theme, there is Candice Proctor's Night in Eden.

Danker | 1030 comments I don’t think I’ve ever read it, so sorry I can’t help.
Everyone else

Im trying to remember the name of a Regency HR where the h agrees to marry someone, sight unseen, after his man of business advertises. Can’t remember why but he has an awful reputation. She needs to escape awful brother (?) who has recently inherited (I know -same old, same old)
They marry and on wedding night he discovers she isn’t a virgin. She had been engaged, years ago, and had sex with fiancée just before he went to war - and died. The day before she marries she takes engagement ring off hand and gives it to soldier begging on street.
The H is an absolute creep and rages etc etc and treats her appallingly, going back on his agreement to make her financially secure.
The h employs a personal maid and the previous employer turns up and warns her that the maid has wrecked her marriage, but h disbelieves her - prob because the maid isn’t a looker (more fool her).
Anyway, I think the h becomes pregnant but relationship remains fraught. She walks in on H in bed with the maid. Maybe has a miscarriage or has baby. Can’t remember.
God knows why I’m looking for this, but it irritates me that I can’t remember the Title.

Lol, Danker, please put that horrendous book out of your mind. No good will come of finding it again. Remember that the brain can only keep a limited number of memories active and this book should not be one of them.

Sounds like something that would have ended up in my DNF pile.

The 1st paragraph sounds familiar. I need to think. These stories tend to blend together.

Hi user---

GR Group "Historical Romance" & discussion 16: help! looking for.
I searched this last night, but did not find what you were looking for.
Sorry.

Roberta2 | 2383 comments User, I know I haven't read your book. I would definitely remember a woman who lost her baby becoming the wet nurse for the hero's baby. Did you try the medieval HR discussion group? Someone there may know it.

message 10: by Roberta2 (new)

Roberta2 | 2383 comments Danker, I know I should agree with OLT about putting that book our of your mind, but I know exactly how you feel. It drives me crazy when I can't remember a title. It sounds really familiar to me, but I can't call up anything immediately.

I think I've reached the point where I cannot remember anything, not even the romance novels I read in 2020. Do I need Prevagen?

Like Roberta2 it frustrates me when I forget a bk title, or even an
author's name.

I have my GR books in categories IE MOC, TSTL heroine, etc but
I read too many books to remember the details. Unless it is a
recent read. I wish I could help user & Danker with their requests.

message 13: by Roberta2 (new)

Roberta2 | 2383 comments I keep seeing those Prevagen commercials on the weather channel. I keep forgetting (lol) to ask my husband if there's any science behind Prevagen.

message 14: by Roberta2 (new)

Roberta2 | 2383 comments I just went on to AAR. They have a search using tags to find books. I don't know how well it works, but you could try that Danker and user.

I will give it a whirl. Might be fun.

Anyone have any recent good recs? We are getting snow tonight into tomorrow, and that makes for good reading time.

message 15: by OLT (new)

OLT | 2480 comments For recs: I am enjoying the old Candice Proctor historical romances which are now available for Kindle. Candice Proctor is C.S.Harris, who writes the Sebastian St.Cyr Regency mystery series that began in 2005 and now there are I don't know how many books in the series. But it's a good series, especially the earliest books.

message 16: by Carol (new)

Carol | 2791 comments Most of the books I read just blend into one another. Ones I really like do stand out though and maybe I can remember the name and/or author if I'm lucky. I do remember ones that's I really like or that were very different.

Last time I checked we had about 10" of snow. I'm sure there's more by now. BRRRR

message 17: by Roberta2 (new)

Roberta2 | 2383 comments Well, never mind about the tag search on AAR. It used to be under power search, but I don't see it anymore.

message 18: by OLT (new)

OLT | 2480 comments I tried for a little while here on GR at Browse/Lists but couldn't think of a good descriptor to find a list that might have user's book. I plugged in "heroine serves as wet nurse for hero's baby" and got nothing. And I haven't a clue what would be used to describe Danker's book to find a list that it's in.

message 19: by Danker (new)

Danker | 1030 comments Crikey - I saw the list of notifications when I woke (it’s 6.40 am here) and thought “hurrah” but then disappointment. You are all correct. It’s as tinker of a book that I could well forget, but I know that it will continue to irritate me until I remember who wrote it.

I’ve done some searching.
I think you may be talking about Ann Lawrence’s Lord in the Mist

message 26: by Danker (new)

Danker | 1030 comments User
This one is less likely, because it isn’t medieval.

Danker | 1030 comments Apologies. The title of Ann Lawrence’s book is Lord OF the Mist

message 28: by Roberta2 (new)

Roberta2 | 2383 comments I am trying to remember the name of a Regency? The hero has illegitimate children and is unapologetic about it. I think he hires the heroine as a governess. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

message 29: by OLT (new)

OLT | 2480 comments Could it be Angel in a Red Dress by Judith Ivory? The hero has five children from five different baby mamas, I think.

message 30: by OLT (new)

OLT | 2480 comments What about Eloisa James' Duke of Villiers? Didn't he have a passel of illegitimate children? Neither of the two suggestions I gave has the heroine working as governess, however.

message 31: by OLT (new)

OLT | 2480 comments There is also a medieval by Teresa Medeiros called Charming the Prince. But in that one the children turned out not to be his biological offspring.

Roberta2---

I'm blanking on the name, but a Scottish Laird had 5 beautiful dtrs born on the wrong side of the blanket and he hired a lady to be governess. He was casual
about status of his dtrs ( not their fault!). He was witty & sexy.

A book by Amanda Scott?

The one that pops into my mind is How to Marry a Marquess by Stacy Reid --- the H has an illegitimate daughter that he adores and he also takes in a bunch of the kids he found with his daughter when he rescued her from the streets. (It's not mentioned in the blurb about the book, but his ex-fiancee told him that their baby died but really she gave her to a baby farm and he finds out years later what happened and immediately starts searching for her --- the h in the story is his friend's sister and he thinks she just wants to be part of society which he doesn't care anything about bc they don't accept his daughter which ends up being the focal angst issue)

I'm sure I've read it but can't remember the title or author. :(

I thought at first it might have been The Matrimonial Advertisement but I'm not sure if it meets all of the criteria.

message 35: by Roberta2 (new)

Roberta2 | 2383 comments Thanks, MG. I haven't read the Stacy Reid so know it isn't that title.

I will check the other titles. I know it wasn't a medieval.

I am not certain, but I think it was a lighthearted read, which doesn't sound right, does it?

message 36: by Roberta2 (new)

Roberta2 | 2383 comments HR-ML, Maybe? I will check the Amanda Scott titles.

message 37: by Roberta2 (new)

Roberta2 | 2383 comments I have only 2 Amanda Scott books and neither is it. This is going to drive me crazy isn't it?

message 38: by Roberta2 (new)

Roberta2 | 2383 comments I don't think it could be Angel in a Red Dress because it's darker than I think the book I'm thinking about, The 5 different children from 5 different mamas sounds right though.

message 39: by HR-ML (new)

HR-ML (hr-movielover) | 3935 comments Mod
The book I referenced (title?) was witty.

message 40: by Roberta2 (new)

Roberta2 | 2383 comments HR-ML, I don't remember him being Scottish, but I could be wrong. Also, I don't remember the children all being girls. Of course, with my memory, I could be wrong.

Roberta2 | 2383 comments HR-ML, In my continuing search, I came across this title--Highland Rogue. Is this the one you were thinking of?

That's the one! I was wrong about 5 dtrs. More important, is this the one you sought?

Danker | 1030 comments Here is the blurb for the TERESA MEDEIROS book from Amazon

My enemies know me as Lord Bannor the Bold, Pride of the English and Terror of the French. Never in my life have I backed down from any challenge or betrayed so much as a hint of fear—until the war ended and I found myself a reluctant papa to a dozen unruly children.

Realizing that I couldn’t lop their little heads off or throw them in the dungeon, I sent my steward out to find them a mother and me a bride—an attractive, meek, maternal creature too plain to tempt me to get her with child. You can imagine my horror when he returned with Lady Willow of Bedlington, a spirited beauty who made me think of nothing else!

With her cloud of dark curls and the sparkle of passion in her eyes, Willow was everything I’d sworn to resist. I never dreamed she would join forces with those mischievous imps of mine to teach this cynical warrior just how sweet surrender can be.

message 46: by Danker (new)

Danker | 1030 comments By the way, it isn’t the one I’m thinking of. I’m still looking for it.

message 47: by Danker (new)

Danker | 1030 comments This also isn’t the one I’m thinking of, but the cover of Sandra Hill’s The Very Virile Viking includes a sword.

message 48: by Danker (new)

Danker | 1030 comments Here is the link to the sword wielding hero, who has 9 children. It’s a time travel book. He needs a mother for his tribe of kids and they pile into his longboat to sail to find her. Instead, they arrive in contemporary Holly Wood. It’s (supposedly) very funny.
