I am rating this fairly high even though I strongly disagree with a few of Brown's stances, because there are also things I love about this book. I had never heard of this author before. I don't watch or listen to talk shows and have never watched a TED talk since I prefer to listen to talks in person. Evidently I live under a rock.
There are a number of excellent points here about being civil, not dehumanizing other people which is far easier to do from a distance, listening, not name calling and that there aren't always only two choices with every issue. That last one is one has been one of my pet peeves for a very long time. Another valid point is where she points out that it is easier to hate people from a distance. Now I realize this isn't literally true for all people all of the time, and I am sure she does as well, but her point is that it is easier to hate a group (as in, and this is totally my phrase, "everyone in the Malarkey party is -insert nasty term here-")
However, I disagree with her definition of spirituality and a few other things, and of course that's okay. I do think there are times when we can agree to disagree as long as we don't do this so that we don't listen to someone (which she points out is done quite often). But this is a book I think is worth reading even if you don't agree with everything she writes.
