Jen K | 3143 comments I really enjoyed this fascinating book on therapy. Gottlieb shares how therapy works throughout the book and applies the theories in both her practice a therapist to 4 composite patients and her experience as a patient where she immediately falls into worst patients habits with her own therapist who she seeks after a break up shakes her so thoroughly. The stories of her patients are so real and touching and you just hope that they are able to work through as she explains how therapy should work. Then there is her own story of challenges and how she needs to reexamine her own thinking to make progress.

This book was very educational as well as entertaining although it made me cry hard as I really felt so close to the patients in the book. I appreciated learning a bit more as to how therapy is intended to work.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11067 comments Great review. I really want to read this. It seemed like it might be too intense for me this month though. Crying and migraines are a bad combination. Maybe next month. It doesn't have a family drama tag does it?

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments You would have to look through the tags to be sure, but I would not consider it family drama.

I guess some people are in counseling for family drama reasons, but it doesn’t strike me as a central theme.

But, it doesn’t have to be tagged family drama for the monthly tag, so if people talking about their family issues is enough for you, then it would count for PBT!

Jen K | 3143 comments Interesting, it has numerous family dramas but they are discussed after the fact- thinking of John and Rita especially. The central theme would be therapy and how to work through healing from earlier family drama.
