January has come and gone which means it's my favorite time of the month...we can finally pick up a new King book! I LOVED last month's pick and I really hope this one will be just as good (I have a sneaking suspicion I'm going to love it). We're still rolling along with Kayla's (aka BooksandLala on Youtube) Buzzwordathon and this month's theme is "a color". So for February we're reading The Green Mile!

The Green Mile was originally published in 1996 as a serial novel, meaning that each part was published individually until the story was complete giving it six parts in total. This is going to make it super easy to split up our reading, as each sub-section under the "February Discussions 2021" tab on here (apart from this post) we'll be talking about a book and a half. So for instance, the first week we'll talk about the entirety of "The Two Dead Girls" and the first half of "The Mouse on the Mile". The second week we'll talk about the second half of "The Mouse on the Mile" and the entirety of "Coffey's Hands". And so on and so forth. I hope that makes sense. This way everyone can read at their own pace and we can talk spoilers without ruining anything for anyone.

The Green Mile tells the story of death row supervisor Paul Edgecombe's encounter with John Coffey, an unusual inmate who displays inexplicable healing and empathetic abilities.

It was adapted in 1999 for the big screen by Frank Darabont who also adapted other King works such as The Mist (from Skeleton Crew), The Woman in the Room (from Nightshift), and The Shawshank Redemption (from Different Seasons). You might also recognize Frank Darabont's name from The Walking Dead where he was a major creator for most of the show's run. Starring Tom Hanks and Michael Clark Duncan the movie was incredibly well received, garnering four Academy Award nominations.

A lot of you are probably in the same boat I am where you've seen the movie a million times but never actually had the time to pick up the book. I am incredibly stoked to finally check this one off of my list and probably bawl my eyes out as I'm doing it. If you know, you know. Happy Reading!!!

I have definitely seen this a bunch of times and I'm so excited to get to this book. I love the fact that the book is broken up into 6 real parts. It will feel like I'm starting and ending a book, like a novella. I'm sure it's going to feel like I'm reading really fast. I do own the 1996 broken up edition :D Happy reading ladies!!
