Need a good historical romance. Other genres too. discussion

Hi! Not sure if this is correct place to post but hoping someone could help. Read a book a few years back - about a hero who didn't believe or minimized the heroine's worry regarding her safety (they weren't married yet). She ended up being badly beaten by the man she feared (the hero hadn't believed that man was capable). He had to do some major work to get back the trust and love from the heroine.
Does anyone have any familiarity with this book?

Other? Were the main characters friends? lovers? engaged?

What was her relationship to the baddie?

Once in a blue moon i like to read a novel where the hero has to do some major sucking up 🤷‍♀️

Sometimes I don't recall a story or I recall several tropes in one story. Or confuse stories.

The Perfect Rake
Had 5 sisters. The heroine was physically hurt by her relative. She arranged for all 5 to run away. She kept quiet about the abuse. The hero had a great sense of humor. He did not know she had a safety issue? There was another dastardly male (but not the hero) who bothered the h.

The Courtship Dance: A Regency Romance
A man was trying to blackmail the heroine who had pockets-to-let. He was creepy.

A Simple Case of Seduction
The heroine was being stalked. But this was Victorian era.
IMO v. sexy.

Miss Lockharte's Letters
This had a teacher dying of influenza. The owner of the school
beat her. The father of a student there did not believe the violence
aspect. The H + h were engaged toward the end.

me think. We sometimes talk politics, but that is optional.

My late friend lived in Sharon, Mass & used the commuter train
to get to work. She took me on the Freedom Trail but frankly
I liked history more than she did.

Did you find your book title?

I started reading this book and now I do not remember the name of it and cannot find it in my way to long list of books. I thought it was Other Birds because it kind of starts the same way with the heroine moving into a new house. It's during the winter and there is a snowstorm. When the h looks out of the window, she sees a white statue. Suddenly the statue falls over and she realizes it's a person. She runs to help. It's a very drunk well-spoken person, who will only listen to her and go inside, if she would share a kiss and she does. The drunk turns out to be a duke, I believe. Help!

My Dashing Duke, it's a novella.

The book I've read twice and can't think of the name is a regency romance. MFC plans on enjoying her female cousins company for the summer, but her mother has different ideas. The MFC mother sends her to a house party where there will be single men, I know it was an important family with maybe 3 brothers that are single. There is a Duke that didn't want to attend the house party, but did to inspect the drainage of the estate the house party was being held(I think)
The main areas I do remember were this.
1. The MFC was sexually assaulted several years before ending in a pregnancy of twins that were left in a small village. The twins died and were treated as farm hands.
2. The Duke took the MFC on a boat ride at the house party where the MFC dress was too small(her mother made the maid pack the small dress) and her breast fell out in front of the Duke, he was really kind to her.
3. The Duke offers marriage due to a scandal where the MFC happens upon the Duke in the library at night, he kisses her and she faints, someone sees them.

I think I read it. I seem to remember the scene in the boat. Of course, I can't remember the title.

47 of romances I've read had a house-party trope. I read each of my reviews- sorry none of them matched your description.

The mother insisted the heroine bring a too-small dress, sounds familiar, but I don't usually add it as a trope for bookshelves unless her family was low on funds.

Oh this is Lady Saves The Duke

It's my favourite trope, where the very respected man is 'saved' by the heroine. This is one of my all time favourite couples.

I'm not a big Anders fan but I really liked this one. And yes, a wonderful couple.
