This was such a beautifully written, heart-breaking story that I read this in two days. The book tells the story of three generations of a family in the form of a letter that a Vietnamese immigrant write to his mother, knowing that she will be unable to read it. It is not told in a linear way to mirror our memories, which can make it difficult to follow. There wasn’t as much of a plot as I would have liked, and at times I would have liked a much clearer idea of where the story was going, but I felt the writing was so beautiful that it nearly made up for this.
