Christabelle (christabelleallestad) | 148 comments Hi all! Did January turn out well? I am desperately trying to finish off a biography, but already setting up my lineup for this month. 😁 Anything you are determined to finish this month? Anything you are excited to start?

Two on my list are:

A Voice in the Wind
Fierce Convictions: The Extraordinary Life of Hannah More—Poet, Reformer, Abolitionist

Amber Thiessen (amber_thiessen) | 69 comments Hey Christabelle! Well, I think you are much better at planning your reading than I am! :) I love this thread, it helps me think ahead a little more. January was good. I discovered some historical fiction authors that I hadn't read before, so that was fun.

This month I want to finish The Providence of God. Others on the list are:
The End of Me: Finding Resurrection Life in the Daily Sacrifices of Motherhood
A Habit Called Faith by Jen Polluck Michel

Christabelle (christabelleallestad) | 148 comments I will take that as a compliment! 😁 I actually have a lot coming up in the next few months. This is my desperate attempt to keep my reading from falling by the wayside. Besides, I LOVE seeing what others are reading! It inspires me to keep going. 🙂

Shelley My January reading turned out well. I finished four books:

The Coddling of the American Mind
By What Standard...God’s World, God’s Rules
Sense and Sensibility
Perfection Salad, Women and Cooking at the Turn of the Century

I have 4 books planned for this month. I am trying to set aside time each day to read and have started to listen to audiobooks.

Christabelle (christabelleallestad) | 148 comments Hi Shelley! I actually have The Coddling of the American Mind: How Good Intentions and Bad Ideas Are Setting Up a Generation for Failure on hold from my library! You'll have to tell me what you think of it. Glad January went well. Have you figured out a good rhythm for reading? I live on audiobooks because they allow me to keep moving. I find it challenging to justify the time set aside for sitting to read. I do sometimes get a few pages in before bed though.

Beth Stel | 32 comments Hello all! I've decided to actually participate in this discussion rather than just lurking, so here goes! January was a great reading month for me as I finished 11 books. I am aiming for the Obsessed level of the challenge so off to a great start! Once I get back to my laptop, I'll update here with which titles I read for which prompts and add my February goals.

Amber Thiessen (amber_thiessen) | 69 comments Hi Beth! Glad you’re here 😊 I saw you read Harry Potter, to my shame I’ve never read the series but I just started the first book! I’ve not read anything by Charles Martin, how did you enjoy Where The River Ends?

Beth Stel | 32 comments Hi Amber! I've read the entire Harry Potter series several times but I go back to the first book more often - it's just a light fun (and quick) read for me.
Where the River Ends was the first book I've read by Charles Martin although several of my reading friends have recommended him quite often. Some of his books are (apparently) more of a miss than a hit, but I plan to pick up some more of his. I did enjoy Where the River Ends. It's definitely sad in places; it's not a spoiler to say it is about a married couple and the wife is terminally ill as this is apparent very quickly on. Hence, I put it under "suffering" as it's her physical suffering and his emotional suffering as he contemplates life without her by his side. Worth a read!
