As you may have seen on social media the hottest new show in town is Bridgerton available on Netflix and created by Shonda Rhimes. Rhimes is the creator of such hits as Grey's Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder and Scandal.

Bridgerton the show, is based off of a series of historical romance fiction books (of the same name) by Julia Quinn.

So the question today is, what's the last romance book you read that you loved? Is historical romance fiction your cup of tea or do you prefer something more contemporary?

Terry Verner | 36 comments I loved The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek
by Richardson, Kim Michele. So much so that I researched the blue people of Kentucky. I enjoy historic fiction!

I had to Google the blue people, because of your comment! I had never heard of such a thing. My interest is no piqued. I can't say that I am big on romance or historical romance so my knowledge is limited, but a favorite book of mine is The Time Traveler's Wife. I just thought it was sweet, a little heartbreaking and I loved with how they handled the time traveling part (even if I was confused a few times).

As far as historical romance fiction, I did enjoy Diana Gabaldon Outlander series and the world she was able to create. Just the right amount of action, history and romance, I feel.

I've you are looking for new reads that are Bridgerton-esque books I created a list of books SAPL has available.

You can view the list here :

I'll also add (a shameless plug :P) that I also created a Spotify playlist that has some music set to strings, based on Bridgerton.

Just in case, any Bridgerton lovers, fell in love with the soundtrack like I did.

NancyMagaly | 9 comments It’s too difficult to choose between historical romance and contemporary. I just finished The Invitation by Vi Keeland. It was a 5 star book for me. The MC I creates perfumes based on people’s likes. I thought that was unique and wished there was something like that available. She also had a hobby of collecting diaries/journals that had been written in. I was so intrigued , I looked for some on eBay. Not a hobby I’ll be doing anytime soon, they were expensive.
I love The Outlander series ! The other I enjoyed immensely was the Discovery of Witches Trilogy.

Sharon Avina | 24 comments I don't usually read books that are strictly in the romance genre. They have to be more, like Outlander, that is historical, sci-fi, and a love story. I've always been intrigued by time travel, and Outlander plays with it well.

My main romance is more paranormal romance... I tend to pick up every Mercedes Thompson book (about a coyote shapeshifter who hangs around werewolves) as it comes out, and read it in a sitting.

Rowan (rowan_alchemist) Generally I prefer no romance in my novels, but I'm currently reading Priory of the Orange Tree and the relationships are so well written. Otherwise, the last book I read with a romantic relationship (kind of) is Harrow the Ninth, which is also very much not a romance. But there's some great queer longing, and complicated relationships between people who are thousands of years old, so there's that?

Angela I've actually been making my way through the Bridgerton books because of the show, I'm on 6/8! I normally don't read any romance but I loved watching it play out on Bridgerton. I must confess I like the show much more than the books, but they are charming and interesting all the same. I'm always longing for more subplot and intrigue within the romance genre.
