Though Fred's ability is to somehow force others to avoid him, I found his character fascinating. Maybe (like Bella) there's something wrong with my brain.
Fred was the sole survivor of Victoria's ill-fated attempt to create a Vampire army and when we last see him he's on his own in the Pacific Northwest.
I think that a novella about him would be interesting though it's far enough from the author's main characters that it will most likely never be written.
If I were doing the Fan/Fic thing I'd give him a go. I see his adapting to being a sole vampire and his having felt something more for Bree than she felt for him. In my mind he'd been the victim of bullies as a child and though physically clutzy as a mortal, that had been solved by his conversion. But his learned ability to somehow make others not notice him had been incredibly enhanced.
I see him deciding to investigate what happened to Bree and the others but based on what he knows he's rightfully cautious of the yellow eyed vamps.
While investigating, he decides to feed in Port Angeles and is astonished when he runs into a yellow eyed, russet haired vamp accompanying that human girl with the appetizing scent.
He turns up the "not noticeable" thing to a 12 but oddly the human girl still seems to have spotted him. He's amazed when the yellow eyed Edward has to physically restrain her from running away.
Of course Edward can't see him and decides that Bella has been more traumatized by events than she has let on and resolves to get her into that BMW guardian that he's read about. He even asks Rosalie and Emmet to help him make it into a vamp-proof vehicle so that Bella will be even safer on the odd chance that he's wrong.
Fred also runs into the Werewolves at one point and though it terrifies him he quickly discovers that his "camouflage" trick works just as well on animals as it does on vamps and humans.
