I started a discussion here https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... - which may not have been the best place. :)

Jackie | 638 comments I would love it if we did another children's book or (especially) YA book. I just ordered Sister of the Bride since I want to own all the "First Love" books and this one was reasonably priced on Abe.

Hi Jackie I'm going to be on holiday for a couple of weeks from Sunday, but we can certainly look at this when I get back!

If anyone else would like to read Sister of the Bride with Jackie, please post here. :)

I looked at the other thread & I do own Swallows and Amazons & would love to read it at some point.

The children's/YA book I am intending to read this year is Under the Mountain by the late Kiwi author Maurice Gee. it just squeaks into our time period. If anyone else was wanting to read with me I could certainly set up a buddy read. For me, it is showing on Amazon. A little pricey for such a short book though.

Anne | 15 comments I love the Swallows and Amazons series and would be very happy to read it again.
Would Anne of Green Gables fit the criteria as that is another favourite of mine.

Hi Anne

Anne of Green Gables would very definitely fit - first published 1908. & the entire set of Anne books was free on Amazon.

This could be fun! What does everyone think?

Anne | 15 comments Another series that I loved is The Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, would anyone like to read them?

Jackie | 638 comments I would be willing to read any of those mentioned, as long as I could find them in my library, free on the internet, or fairly cheap used (remember when that was easy?)

ETA: the first Swallows and Amazons is free online so I would read that one for sure. It looks very good and then there is an entire series afterwards, yay!

Jackie | 638 comments Another Beverly Cleary I now own is The Luckiest Girl

I love retro YA! I wish I could do buddy/group reads but the SR in my name means Slow Reader and I just can't. But I love this thread and will no doubt get great recs and discussions about whatever you guys read.

Ellen | 14 comments I would also be interested in reading any of these titles.

I read & loved some of these books when a child. I do own Little House on the Prairie & would love to reread that one.

I am going away for a couple of weeks holiday tomorrow, but we can collect ideas & look at them when I am back home. :)

Jackie | 638 comments Happy Travels, Carol!

Susan in NC (susanncreader) | 2065 comments Not familiar with any of these series except the Little House books, which I loved as a girl and reread a few years ago as part of a now-defunct group’s challenge to reread a book that got you hooked on reading! I’d be in for Little House, don’t know about availability of others. Oh, I have read Anne of Green Gables, probably with this group.

Susan in NC (susanncreader) | 2065 comments P.S. checked Amazon, and the Swallows and Amazons series is currently available to read for free through Kindle Unlimited.

FYI, I made a children's and YA bookshelf for the group just to consolidate what has already been read in the past (but that doesn't mean re-reads can't happen!)

https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...

Let me know if I missed any.

& the list looks really good, Cindy.

My thoughts so far are that we should do Sister of the Bride first - since this was Jackie's idea. Would the 20th of July suit you, Jackie & Ellen?

Then maybe we could look at Swallows and Amazons for the 5th of August?

If there is a big swell of interest for Anne or Little House on the Prairie we can change that when I am back from holiday.

I don't want to overload myself too much as I am still reading the Poldark series (started during the first book pool) :)

Jackie | 638 comments It all sounds good to me, but I'm flexible.

message 19: by Anne (new)

Anne | 15 comments I am flexible as well. Enjoy your break Carol.
