Hi, Everyone. I'm Jen. I am new to Goodreads and new to book groups/clubs, so please excuse any growing pains. Suggestions are welcome. Some days I am chatty and some days I am quiet, so I wanted to start a group that supports both moods.

I am a seasonal reader being that in the summer I like reading chick-lit and cozy mysteries and the rest of the year, I read heavier books- historical fictions, crime, thrillers, and other thought provoking feel goods.

Thank you for joining this group and helping make it a success.

Monica | 19 comments Hi I'm Monica. I have been on Goodreads for about a decade and I love it. But this is my first year actually joining book clubs so it is also a new adventure for me but I'm looking forward to discussing books with everyone in the group. I'm a slow reader because of work, my obsession with seeing every musical shows(pre covid)and my obsession with binging Netflix internationaI tv shows. I enjoy reading historical fiction, fantasy, thrillers, and mysteries. I'm trying to read more horror this year

You got me with binging Netflix. What kind of international shows? I am currently addicted to korean drama. Crash Landing on You and Memories of Alhambra are my favorites so far.

message 4: by Hope (new)

Hope Hello, I’m Hope. I’m Jen’s oldest daughter. I love reading dystopian books, historical fiction, sci-fi, but I’ve been branching out to autobiography, trying to read some poetry, and other genres.

Monica | 19 comments Netflix has a group of shows from the American writer Harlan Coben that I like. His books are american based but the shows take place in Europe. One that I can think of is called the five. I also love money heist and elite(spain), wentworth and wanted (Australian), top boy(british). I recently fell in love with Alice in wonderland (Japanese) and kingdom(a zombie Korean show)

Harlan Coben....I think I watched a movie based on his book - The Stranger. I started watching it because I like Richard Armitage and then at the end I realized it was based on his book. I didn't know there are more.

Janice | 282 comments Hi everyone :) I'm Janice and have been on Goodreads for a few years. I'm like Jennifer in that I have days where I am chatty and other days are quiet so I think this will be a great group for me to join. I consider myself an extroverted introvert as I am chatty and outgoing with family and really close friends, but in groups or crowds I clam up. :) I like reading all sorts of genres except for erotica, murders (unless cozy mysteries), paranormal, sci-fi to name a few. I do enjoy reading cozy mysteries, historical fiction, classics including children's classics seasonal reads to name a few. I also love musicals <3 I look forward to reading with you all. :)

message 8: by Julia (new)

Julia Hootman (juliahoot10) Hello there! I’m Julia! I’m from Ohio! I used to read a lot when I was a kid, but when I got a little busier with school I stopped reading as often. In 2021 I’ve challenged myself to read at least 30 minutes everyday and I’m enjoying it! I would really love a place to discuss the books I read, so here I am!

I’ll read virtually any genre! Some of my preferred genres are crime, coming-of-age, young adult, science-fiction and the occasional romance! I also love reading biographies of actors and musicians I am interested in and nonfiction true crime!

My favorite book is The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and it has been since I was young. I first read it in 6th grade and it’s stuck with me for years. I reread it several times every year without fail.

I’m looking forward to reading with all of you! :)

The Outsiders has a special place in my heart. It was my 8th grade book that turned my into a book-lover. I still have my copy from way back then.

message 10: by Karen (new)

Karen S. | 27 comments Hi, I'm Karen and am Jen's mom and Hope's grandmother. I also claim parenthood to Molly and Sadie. My kids say I'm not an introvert, but after 30+ years of teaching, I have had to push myself out of my comfort zone. I find most of my energy draws from being by myself, though. My favorite book on the subject is Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain.

I love, love, love Louise Penny and her Inspector Gamache mysteries. (You must start at book 1 and read them in order--some people think Book 1 is a little disappointing and don't go further.) I love most murder mysteries, but not violent ones (as if murder is not violent).

I also love historical fiction ('m in the middle of listening to America's First Daughter about Patsy Jefferson. I just finished Lady Clementine. I'm also in the middle of The Paris Library. I have to finish it by Wednesday for my book club that's been meeting for over 25 years. If I don't get finished I get scolded.

I love nonfiction books by Bill Bryson, Bill Nye the Science Guy, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Edward O Wilson. I also just finished Old in Art School and could relate about the age thing.

I'm enjoying YA and middle grade books. I'll be starting Charlie Thorne and the Lost City, a sequel to Charlie Thorne and the Last Equation. Of course I'm a Harry Potter fan. I loved The Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper and A Wrinkle in Time series. I love Jason Reynolds's Track series.

message 11: by Gia (new)

Gia | 17 comments Hi, I'm Gia and I'm so glad to be here:) I followed my friend Janice here and our friend Shannon followed me here! Thank you, Jennifer, for this special group! I, too, am an introvert but I can also be outgoing in the right circumstances.

My whole life I have mostly been reading non-fiction books with an occasional fiction book thrown in. My favorite topics to read are American history, cooking, psychology, spirituality, geology, nature, and historical adventure/exploration. Fiction genres I like are cozy mysteries, historical, children's fiction, religious themes, lighthearted/funny, and classics.

@Karen I'll have to check out Inspector Gamache... haven't met him yet! :)

Last year I decided to make it my mission to read the Classics, which I knew nothing about at all. It was an adventure for sure and I'm so glad I did that! Some of my favorite classics are Heidi and the Anne of Green Gables series. My goal in reading the classics continues. Right now I am reading Canoeing in the Wilderness by Henry David Thoreau.

I'm really excited to be part of this group!

I'm glad there are people familiar with each other in the group, I think that makes it more fun. I have my mother, a daughter, and a wonderful young lady who I consider my daughter too in the group. It's also exciting meeting new people. I'm having fun and glad I started this.

I'm glad to have you. I was looking for a group for myself but everyone had so many rules (I am more of a rule breaker, not follower) and participation was mandatory 1-2 times a day. I really just wanted to watch the action before joining in. So I started this group thinking I couldn't be the only one that felt that way.

Hi Gia,
You will love Gamache. I was hooked on the first book and never looked back. Some of my friends thought it wasn't that interesting but once they got past the first book and knew all the characters, they loved it. It's set in an imaginary town in Canada called Three Pines just over the Vermont border. I want to live in that town and go into Myrna's bookshop and eat at Oliver and Gabri's bistro.

By the way, you might like Two Coots in a Canoe.

Hi Julia,
We've got cousins in Zanesville, OH and Marietta, OH. Do you live near there?
I've not read a lot of sci-fi, but I enjoyed The Martian and I also like the children's Moon Base Alpha series by Stuart Gibbs.

Hi Janice! Me too! Yay! I'm so glad:) Yes, I'm definitely reading more classic books here on Goodreads, too, for sure! Canoeing in the Wilderness is very good and I love books like this, especially adventures on waterways for some reason. I'm not very far into the book even though I've been reading it awhile, I guess I'm savoring it:) Henry David Thoreau has already caused me to chuckle twice in the first few pages. I'll keep you posted on this.

I'm glad you're enjoying it. I really enjoyed it and also feel drawn to water. It might be because I'm from Prince Edward Island and was surrounded by water my whole life. <3 Now, I live in a landlocked province and so I try to find water wherever I can whether it's in a book or sounds on YouTube. :)

Sadie Griffith | 34 comments Hi, I'm Sadie, and I'm a friend of Hope's and her family! They're like a second family to me.

I love reading books and when Jen invited me to this book group, I was all for it! My favorite genres are sci-fi, mysteries, and thrillers--and always open to new genres such as classics. I couldn't get into classics when I was younger, but I'd love to try again! I also like nonfiction history.

I'm excited to find new books and experiment more genres outside my comfort book zone.

Cassandra FAURE | 4 comments Hello to you all !

I'm Cassandra. I'm 24 and I'm French.
I've been on Good Reads for quite a few years now but I haven't really been into it until now. This year, I'm really going back to reading after 5 years of studying.
I thought it would be great to be able to share about it and exchange on any other topic of life.
On a general basis, I am a couch + tea + book + chill music girl.

I very much like any story based on true facts, historical fictions, books regarding science, the functionning of the body, etc.
I also like some chill romantic fictions or travelling stories.

I am not too much into sci-fi, fantasy, or thriller. But still stay open-minded about any suggestions :) I love to be suprised. I know that there are exceptions to everything and that is the best about it !

Can't wait to exchange more with all of you and wish you a happy Easter week-end.

We have similar genre interests. Although I oddly started reading thrillers- I am a giant chicken so I stop and start frequently and have to read something light in between.

message 31: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra FAURE | 4 comments Well, on my side it is more about being very "demanding" about those stories whether it is about thrillers or even mysteries. It is very complicated for me to find a book I really immerge completely and do not get disappointed by the end of the story... That is why I stay open to suggestions because by myself I do not seem to find the right books in those genres. So, I hope that afficionados could help me :)

I know what you mean about the ending letting you down. I know Stephen King has an incredible fan base, but the two books I read by him felt a bit like a let down so I don't read his books anymore. It could have just been my selection and not his norm? My favorite author is Greg Isles. His Penn Cage series are great, I think.

message 37: by Brandy (new)

Brandy S Hello, I'm Brandy, I'm in Arkansas and I'm a total newbie to Good Reads so please be patient as I learn the system. I'm an introvert who often passes as an extrovert. My career has forced me to work directly with people, making presentations and speaking publicly, etc. It's like being an actress: it's almost like a hat I can put on and take off. I can slip easily into that role when necessary but I always breathe a sigh of relief when it's over.

My preference is to be at home with my books and my animals. I have a small farm/rescue and have dogs, cats, rabbits, chickens, a turkey and, my new love, a gosling named Turbo. My reading preferences change by day, largely led by romances and historical fiction. I recently read a Jennifer Crusie book called "Maybe This Time" which blindsided me with some super creepy ghost interactions and now I'm on a paranormal kick. I look forward to getting to know other readers and hearing about other people's favorite books!

Jon (aguywhopatsdogs) Hi! I'm Jon. I'm 31 y.o. and live in Colorado. After a multiyear break from reading, I received a kindle for Christmas, and got myself a library card to go along with my Libby app. For a little over a year now, I've been using goodreads to browse books I might enjoy and keep track of my reading progress. I love it for that, and am now trying to connect with some people. I enjoy all types of books, but above all, books based on real life events, or grounded in reality. That being said, I'll try almost anything. If a story is science fiction but has an emotional truth to it, I'm probably going to be there for it. Nice to meet you all, and I can't wait to discuss some books!

I was raised by a reading teacher so reading has been in my blood since birth. I love MOST books, not that big on non-fiction only because I read to escape *shrug*. But I love reading YA, Fantasy, Fiction, Rom-com, romance, thriller, etc. I'm glad to be here!
