I watched the new version and it was pretty good. We also watched episodes here and there of the old one, and got to the point of skipping the family reunifications, lost gold mine stuff, and most of the UFO segments.

I will say that despite my pragmatic self, I did love the ghosty ones (even if they were later debunked elsewhere), and of all the UFO stories presented on that show, there was one that sort of creeped me out more than just a bit, and felt like I was watching an episode of X-files (which I really loved). It made me wonder if our government was experimenting with something it shouldn't have been:

But when they reached the fleet, Morgan cheated his men and disappeared with nearly the entire treasure, and 200 slaves on 3 ships. Morgan alone returned to Port Royale months later to be arrested for breaking a peace treaty and sent him to London. In London, Morgan was a hero and eventually knighted by King Charles the II.
Sir Henry Morgan was sent back to Jamaica as Lt Governor but Morgan abandoned his billion dollar plunder, sent goons after a single captain from the Panama raid, and hid on his plantation in drunken debauchery. Morgan burned his log books so the world would never learn the truth of what happened the plunder of Panama, two ships and 450 souls.
Three years after his death, the entire city of Port Royale sank into the ocean after an earthquake and tsunami, including Morgan's grave said by some to be cursed of God, said by others to be cursed by Morgan.
What happened to two ships, 30 tons of plunder and 450 souls never to be seen again? Why did Morgan hunt down only one captain from the raid? What was so horrific that Morgan felt a need to hide the truth from the world?
To understand this mystery, you must first understand another mystery. In 1531, the Spanish massacred or deported the people of Roatan Island to build Castillo de Augusta, a fort to guard against piracy. According to the natives, the island of Roatan had been a pilgrimage for a thousand years, but no one ever learned why natives would risk such a dangerous ocean pilgrimage to an island.
What was so special about the island? Why is it important? It was the last place Morgan and his fleet was seen before they disappeared forever,
