At midnight on September 5, Mateo receives a phone call from Death-Cast, a company that is able to predict when someone us going to die. The caller lets him know he only has twenty four hours, at the most, left to live. He's led a fairly quiet life, with only one good friend and his father is hospitalized in a coma. He downloads an App called Last Friend in a last minute effort to live a full life for a few hours.
Rufus is in the middle of beating up his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend when he receives his call from Death-Cast. Since the police are looking for him, he can't endanger his friends by spending his last hours with them. He decides to download the Last Friend app and meets Mateo, even though they are complete opposites.
As Mateo and Rufus spend their last hours together they both became characters I loved. I became so invested in their lives and their relationship, I sometimes forgot they were going to "die in the end". I felt the ending was ultimately sweet and hopeful and would absolutely recommend this book to just about everyone I know.
