Let's talk about McGinnis. What are your thoughts?

Jennifer (crookshanks71) | 24 comments The Cask of Amontillado might be my favorite Poe story. I really enjoyed this book and I think readers will have fun getting all of the references in it, but I don't think it's a Printz contender.

Jenn (jennmonk) | 43 comments I generally like Poe-inspired stories, but I had a hard time reading this one. I DNF'ed at 25%. McGinnis is often hit or miss for me.

I listened to this book. I think the first 1/3 of the book has what I call whiplash reading. McGinnis is laying out the story, but the storyline isn't completely clear. However, once the party fully starts, the plot takes off nicely. I was pretty invested, and I'm excited to see what happens in the second book.

However, I do not think this is a contender for Printz. It's a classic McGinnis book. Heroine was a much stronger read. I would recommend this to readers who enjoy gritty thrillers.

Brittin (brittsc) | 40 comments I started this one and realized just exactly how much Poe I have forgotten. I spent my time trying to remember/figure out the Poe allusions and couldn't get into the story. Ended up giving up on it very early, which is a disappointment.

Cathy | 27 comments I was disappointed by this one, especially since I'd been so excited by the concept. I found myself spending far too much time making the Poe comparisons, not enough getting into the story--which, admit it, is quite predictable. Not sure how there will be a sequel. Sad when my favorite character was the panther.
