Richard Kenneth Conde | 310 comments Hi everyone. Are you interested in reading a book, or perhaps just curious if you should read it? Ask our members here in this topic if they have read it, and what is their opinion on it?

If any of the members have read that particular book, they can share their thoughts on the book here.

Richard Kenneth Conde | 310 comments Let me be the first. I have heard of good things about the German author Cornelia Funke. Her books Inkdeath and Inkheart were written in German. The translated copies are available here in the USA in English. Has anyone here read her books by any chance? And what are your thoughts on it?

I feel like going into a foray into fantasy this year. Thanks in advance to those that have read it and has any thoughts on this.

I personally have not read her books, but my older sister absolutely loves them!

Hi Eda. Hopefully I can answer some of your questions on three of the four books. Unfortunately I cannot answer Robert Frost poems as I haven't read that yet.

But to answer your question on:

Crime and Punishment

I wrote a long review on this here in Good Reads. Here is the link to that review:

Any book by Jane Austen

There is a topic here on Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Here is the link to that so you can read the thoughts of the members that shared their opinions on it:

Dune

I read this book by Frank Herbert several years ago. I wrote a review here on Good Reads. Here is the link where I talked about my pros and cons on this book:

Hopefully this helped answer your inquiry. And perhaps a member here in the group has read Robert Frost's poems, and can share their opinion(s) on that book. Have a good one.

That's a good thing. Perhaps I'll give it a try.

I have not read Crime and Punishment, but for the others:
I personally love Jane Austen. I think some people find her books dull, but if you enjoy reading 19th-century literature then her books are a must. I especially like her books because they offer a unique perspective: Austen's main characters are women, and the character arcs of the men in her stories revolve around the arcs of the women, instead of the other way around (the norm for this time). They are generally lighthearted and funny, not filled with deep existential material like others from the time.
Dune is one of my dad's favorite books, and he used to read it to me as a bedtime story, so I'm a little bit biased. I like the plotline of Dune a lot. It's such a classic but interesting sci-fi story and I think everyone should read it at some point. That being said, it can be difficult to work through, especially the first 150 pages or so. The ending of the series is also a little weird/confusing, but you don't really have to worry about that just yet. If you're a fan of super detailed worldbuilding then I think you'll really like Dune.
As for Robert Frost - his poems are definitely very good. I think that you have to read all of his poems multiple times to really get the deeper meaning, but the tone and symbols he uses do come across in the first read if you are looking for some more surface-level poetry reading. So, you can read him super crazy in-depth or just for fun, and if you like nature poems Frost is your guy.
Sorry if this was more detailed than you needed!
Hope this helps!

Laura If you like fantasy, or just a highly readable novel that will leave you thinking, try Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. I can't get that one out of my head.

Can I just ask, what properties did the labyrinth have to cause him (Piranesi) to lose his memory? I am just curious.

Richard Kenneth Conde | 310 comments Has anyone read the dystopian 4-book series Uglies by Scott Westerfeld? What did you think about the first couple of book?

message 12: by Richard Kenneth (new)

Richard Kenneth Conde | 310 comments I am not sure which series to start. The Scott Westerfeld series or the Victoria Aveyard series.

Is anyone here familiar with Victoria Aveyard's Cruel Crown, Glass Sword, King's Cage, Red Queen, and War Storm by any chance?

Yes! I love them, though they are a GUILTY pleasure, for sure.

I have watched the film which was at the time on Classic Turner Film on American Movie Classics. I found the film to be highly entertaining. However, I haven't read the book yet, so I cannot give an opinion about the book. If I may suggest look at the overview of the book here at Good Reads, then read a few review of good reviews and a few review of bad reviews. Then decide if it is a book you would start to read.
