James McLellan | 1 comments Hello all.

I'd like to introduce some of my work that I hope you might enjoy.

The Colony series is an 8-book (at the moment) space opera inspired by Isaac Asimov's 'Foundation' series. Each story moves the timeline forward and it explores the interval in time between humankind's first settlement beyond the Sun to a point in time where the Earth is eclipsed by it's children worlds and fades from importance -- or more specifically inspired by the space between now and 'Caves of Steel'

Colony by James McLellan Colony is the first book in the series, and the one most told in terms of 'Foundation'-style single-chapter stories. It's a survival story of robots in outer space, establishing that first extra solar colony. Books2Read link - books2read.com/u/bMRrja

Singularity (Colony #2) by James McLellan Singularity explores the technology developed in Colony, which resolves the conflict of the technological singularity by taking humans and machines into evolving as peers in ability. I wanted to explore this world a little more, so I used Victor Hugo's 'Les Miserables' as a template for the troubles that seem to be a fixed part of human nature, and applied those scenes to this high-tech utopia to see what I believed might happen. Cradle of the Sun (Colony #3) by James McLellan Cradle of the Sun
does not develop the series much. It's an adventure tale told in this universe, about comet miners and a dead neutron star. Books2Read link - books2read.com/u/3JR01v

First Contact (Colony Book 4) by James McLellan First Contact is a first contact tale inspired by Fredrick Pohl's idea that aliens might be all around you, and you simply don't recognize them. The story is half told from the perspective of the aliens. Books2Read link - books2read.com/u/3GvYy8

Phylogeny (Colony) by James McLellan Phylogeny is the most recent book in the Colony series, and explores the ideas of cultural friction and evolution along parallel genetic and technological lines. It's inspired heavily by Bruce Sterling's 'Schismatrix' and that shaper / mechanist universe, but is much earlier. At it's most basic, this is a tale of how civil war can happen (or not happen) in a world where computer-aided telepathy makes thoughts easily accessible.

I'm working on my 6th, 'Fear', which is a tale of art in this universe. I hope it will be out before summer.

Thank you!
