Lizzy Siddal (Lizzy’s Literary Life) | 302 comments Is there anything you particularly want to read?

Put your suggestions in the hat and we’ll vote on them at the beginning of April.

Christiane has suggested Daniel Kehlmann’s Measuring the World / Die Vermessung der Welt.
I’d like to suggest Robert Seethaler’s The Field / Das Feld.

Any advances?

Annix Tyll by Daniel Kehlmann just came out in the US, and I thought it was very good.

Erin | 64 comments Well, these are some of the German books I have on hand that I haven't read yet, in case any of these could be of interest... somehow I keep buying new books instead of reading the ones I own... :) But, lol, both the other Kehlmanns sound more interesting than the one I have (which was a gift).

Nachtzug nach Lissabon, Pascal Mercier
Die Entdeckung der Langsamkeit, Sten Nadolny
Rückwärtswalzer, Vea Kaiser
Altes Land, Dörte Hansen
Bühlerhöhe, Brigitte Glaser
Vom Ende der Einsamkeit, Benedict Wells
Die Mitte der Welt, Andreas Steinhöffel
Nach Mitternacht, Irmgard Keun
Aus dem Sinn, Emma Bratlavsky
Ruhm, Daniel Kehlmann

Lizzy Siddal (Lizzy’s Literary Life) | 302 comments Kehlmann’s name keeps cropping up. And he is terrific, so let’s choose from the 3 novels mentioned.

1) Measuring The World / Die Vermessung der Welt
2) Tyll
3) Fame / Ruhm

In the event of a tie, I’ll make the casting vote beginning of April.

SUB are the Unread Books. Theoretitical they have to be on the TBR, but mostly (by me) that are to many books. For me a TBR are Books I've to read in the next month or so.

LOL, I call my TBR all the books in my GR to-read list. Which is now at over 1750. *blush* I have a shorter list that is more things I'm keeping in mind for the next year or so which I keep in a doc file, but it's still over-long! Then I have the books I've actually bought and have on-hand but have yet to read (which don't necessarily seem to be prioritized as much as you'd think...) The first two Kehlmanns are on my TBR, the third is actually sitting here - but as I said, it seems the least interesting of the three to me from a synopsis standpoint, so vote away everyone and I'll be happy with the result. ;)

Lizzy Siddal (Lizzy’s Literary Life) | 302 comments Ladies, ladies! There is no need to blush or apologise about the number of unread books in our homes or on lists. We are bookworms - collecting things to read is what we do! 😉

Though I am currently in the process of reducing the number in my house by about 500 - the number I estimate need to go to make space for the desk that is due to arrive sometime this week. It is not easy. 😬 Been working on it all weekend. Number of books culled: 135 or thereabouts.

SUB = Stapel ungelesener Bücher. Danke, Christiane. Das wollte ich wissen.

Annix I‘m good with all Kehlmann books. The only reason I would vote for Die Vermessung is because I haven‘t read it in so long.

Lizzy Siddal (Lizzy’s Literary Life) | 302 comments Last call for votes. (Deadline Midnight April 2 - UK time)

Claire | 11 comments I'd prefer either measuring the world or Fame, with a slight preference for measuring the world.

Lizzy Siddal (Lizzy’s Literary Life) | 302 comments Measuring the World it is!
