From the reviews this book sounds pretty violent and I love me a violent book XD

Also violent greek gods in modern nyc + hunger games....looks like all the odds are in its favor xD

Haha, it seems so! I haven't read anything about it yet so I'd be going in blind. It is 9th for the both of us so let's read a couple of chapters today. We can read at the same time or just post any time during the day. What would you prefer?

Ok I've read it till Ch 5, here are my thoughts:

So far I'm loving this. But wow it’s so much more complex than I thought it would be. Feel like I’m in history class trying to remember all these gods and connections and totally failing at grasping it all lol.

Oh so Lore is a fighter, well I like that she is tough and doesn't need anybody to come to her rescue.

Also I don't trust Athena at all. After the binding she gives Lore a “cruel, blinding smile,” and all I can think is great she’s bound herself to the real enemy. Hope I’m wrong

It's the first time I'm reading about someone who binds their life to a complete stranger not someone they love and want to save them or something. I guess that's interesting.

(view spoiler)[Ouf, OMG this is pumping me with adrenaline too. This started so quickly! Damn! Can’t wait for the back story on Gil. Loved the whole fight scene. It might have been cute in another setting. I wonder how she is related to the whole cycle. (hide spoiler)]
Chapter 2
(view spoiler)[Who is Castor to him? And who is Miles? This was better than the last chapter. Really loving how fast-paced this book is. Wondering why he didn’t come to see her all this time. Is she also from the House of Achilles? I’m kinda already biased towards that because of ‘The Song of Achilles’. Who is ‘he’? (hide spoiler)]
Chapter 3
(view spoiler)[OMG how did she reach their place? How? She is easily found? I have so many questions. AS for the rest of the chapter, I enjoyed Miles and the friendship they have. I also can’t stop wondering about Castor and who he is to her. Gilbert seemed sweet. (hide spoiler)]
Chapter 4
(view spoiler)[Okay so she is the last of her house. I wonder why Athena meant by binding their fates? Poor Miles, I really like him. He will probably be rolled deeper into this as the plot thickens. She is gonna go back for vengeance. I wonder if Athena would survive though. I do feel so bad for her. Who was ‘he’ that Castor talked about though? (hide spoiler)]
Chapter 5
(view spoiler)[So Athena won’t die with her wounds if they bind their fates? Or she could still die here in the house? This reminds me a bit of the ‘Unbreakable Vow’ in Harry Potter. She’ll die if Athena dies. How will Athena kill the new Ares? Could she also possibly die then because they’d all have their powers back by then. Moreover, was the prologue about Lore’s family being killed? The last couple of lines were even better. Miles knows. Yikes.

I am really loving the pace of everything. It’s bringing me back all the familiar perks of reading. (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]

I absolutely agree. I haven't read much in so long and I had to read those lines, in the beginning, a couple of times haha. But it is slowly unravelling. The new Ares is definitely one of the villains.

You know, I didn't think of Athena but now that you mention it, OMG that could totally be a good twist that Athena turns on her instead, or is the one who wanted this to happen. Who knows?

As for the binding, it just reminded me a bit of Harry Potter. This really is interesting. Double risk too though. Why would they need such a vow anyway? Can't they simply make an old-fashioned deal lol?

I was kinda afraid to come in here before reading all the 11 chapters because of my fear of spoilers 🤣 I’ll organize my thoughts by roman numbers to fit the story, lol

I. Can I say that the physical copy is amazing??? Like, white and gold are amazing together and the Versace cover is killing me!

II. If everything works out well, Lore is gonna go to my list of favorite female leads. She's so amazing: is trained to kill, is headstrong, loved her family, and is willing to trust an old God to get her revenge. She's the package.

III. The world-building. Wow. I agree, it's far more complex than I thought it would be, and I'm loving it! The Agon, the relics, the Houses... Though not necessarily original feels fresh if you know what I mean.

IV. The whole plot until now kept me very engaged. That Castor was the new Apollo I could see from miles away, so I don't think it was supposed to be a twist or anything. I think the scheming starts now, so I'm holding what everyone says up close for an inspection to try to predict things 🤣

V. The subjugation of women is unnerving They’re good enough to hunt and risk their lives but they can strike the killing blow and become goddesses?? 😤 I'm about to through hands at Phillip. So I'm really excited to learn more about the Tidebringer. To see if she can show the Houses her worth.

VI. Lastly I'm also wary of Athena. As far as we know all the old Gods are pictured as quite the bastards here, so I'll not be surprised if she turns on Lore. 🤔

I haven't seen the physical copy yet but you make it seem like an awesome idea to get one haha. I agree, she is quite badass. You're quite right about the old gods being such mean assholes, that it should be quite likely.

That's what I imagined too and this is completely different.

I also liked the cast of characters given at the end :)

Chapter 6
(view spoiler)[Tidebringer (Rhea) is still here, a part of her family. I wonder how she’ll come into play. I kind of feel for her. Shunned for being a woman. I’m getting all riled up too, lol. Okay, so now we know why the book’s cover is the head of Medusa: the aegis. Wow, it will be good to see Lore wield it once again, but I suppose Athena would like to as well. I quite enjoyed Athena’s first words in the chapter and how they startled Miles. I can’t be the only one finding immense humor here. Athena looked on with surprise and approval. Lore gritted her teeth at the sight of it. “I prefer the company of this mortal,” she informed Lore. Lol. Castor knows all this too, and he’s been gone for the past years. Could he be the new Apollo? This chapter is so much information. (hide spoiler)]
Chapter 7
(view spoiler)[The writing was quite enjoyable in this one. Wearing the attire of hunters from the house of Achilles would probably give her an advantage even against the one who probably caught her by the end of the chapter I suppose. (hide spoiler)]

Ten Years Earlier
(view spoiler)[This was so bittersweet at the beginning with the happy family they were and now they are all gone. I loved their connection with each other. I don’t quite enjoy the Tidebringer being hunted as such though. (hide spoiler)]

I’d really like to see how he became the new Apollo; it does seem like some accident. I felt sad about Tidebringer dying. Wrath is a bit annoying tbh. Will he seek out all the gods? (hide spoiler)]

I believe there was something about being able to use some powers but this seems considerate. The end was horrible and so disrespectful to the dead, damn. Castor is still so scared and Philip is definitely more like a leader. I liked how he replied to Wrath. This is going to get so ugly! (hide spoiler)]

It's really pretty and super comfortable to read. Plus, it looks good on my bookshelf cause I just realized that most of my books have darker colors 🤣

yeah i also think that there was some kind of accident, i mean how can a sick kid kill a god?
But I'm glad Castor's the new Apollo if only because he's changing things

also this book keeps going back and forth like they've advance tech but still they're arranging marriages for kids lol

I don't trust Phillip. There is something off about him, but then most the characters seem shady to me. But I wouldn't be surprised if Phillip were working with Wrath.

somewhere earlier in the book it was said that they retain only a faint of their powers but what the new Ares did, it looked he hasn't lost any of his powers

am i the only one who loves the way Athena talks? xD
