Ahh I finished this set, what was that last chapter?!!
First of all, I love the dystopian setting on Mars with the mining and everything, but wow, 13 is sooo young to start in the mines, and Darrow got married at 16, which is also super young! Crazy haha.
The blatant racism (or colourism) is really heartbreaking and infuriating to read about, and I can’t wait to see Darrow break the chains, but it’s so sad that Eo had to die for Darrow to attempt to rebel. I look forward to seeing what will happen there.
.... umm... Darrow died in that last chapter?? Literally the 6th chapter of the book?? I can’t wait to see what will happen with that ahahah.

Part 1 Slave
Ch 1 Helldiver
- [ ] Ahh! They have to pull their loved ones feet as they are hanged! That is awful!
- [ ] Eww I would hate to be in those frysuits, they do not sound comfortable
- [ ] Married at 16? Are they are hungry? Poor things 😣

Ch 2 Township
- [ ] I just realised this is written in first person POV. I’ve been reading mainly third person and I think it’s my preferred way. It’s been a really long time I think since I read first person
- [ ] There is soo much information thrown at us, it is pretty overwhelming, I am only half following with Darrow does and what his society looks like
- [ ] Okay, so the Reds are digging and trying to make Mars like Earth. Okay got that haha

Ch 3 The Laurel
- [ ] Yeah when I read of the Laurel in the last chapter, that was one of the things I didn’t understand. Let’s see if in this chapter I will understand it haha
- [ ] It’s sweet that his uncle taught him to dance, even the forbidden dance
- [ ] I wonder why they have a forbidden dance and song
- [ ] How awful! If they don’t meet the quota they aren’t given food or supplies?!
- [ ] I guess the Laurel is something they earn and received good supplies as a reward?

Ch 4 The Gift
- [ ] It is not right that the Reds can’t be in the Forest too.
- [ ] Eo has so much faith in Darrow, in how his brains could make his father’s dream a reality, it’s actually beautiful to read

Ch 5 The First Song
- [ ] Oh my gosh, so cruel! So unnecessary and now Eo will die for a cause she believes in

Ch 6 The Martyr
- [ ] 😭😭😭😭 Darrow burying his wife! So beautiful, so loving and yet so heartbreaking 💔
- [ ] Ahh!

I agree! Last two chapters really got me!
Yeah definitely way too young! And they wanted Eo to marry at 14?!
I also wanted to know what was her second gift for Darrow? Was it the song of death? Also what did she say to her sister?
I hope we find out soon

Without her death, Darrow wouldn’t have rebelled or seen what Eo was trying to tell him in the Gardens. Eo was smart to have seen that and brave for carrying it forward

I know! Such a shocking start to the book! Onto the next set!

Since the next set is from 7-19, I reckon we’re should spilt it and we first read 7-12 before reading the rest. How does that sound?

Yeah 7-12 sounds perfect! I’ll read the chapters tomorrow :))

Yeah it might be for the rebellion. I hope we eventually find out
