Ch 8 Dancer
- [ ] He described his uncle as old and tired at 35, now he sees Dancer as terribly old at 40. Their life expectancy must not be very long if that’s the case. And it angers me since it would probably have to be because of their living conditions in Mars
- [ ] HAHA loved that he ate the card! Genius!
- [ ] This book was definitely influenced by the Hunger Games premise. I can see class division and hatred for those in power spilling through these pages
- [ ] Oh soooo, the city is not meant to be as grand as Darrow sees it now. That’s his job in Lykos, they are mining to construct this future but that future is already there! They are just mining for nothing!
- [ ] I hope he breaks all those chains!
Ch 9 The Lie
- [ ] I hate it how their own people are divided, HighReds and LowReds. It makes me soo mad to think the same brothers are on opposites ends of their socio-economic status
- [ ] And yet this is such a harsh reality for us now, we are divided in the same way in some form. Wow I am impressed with how real this book is written
- [ ] It’s so sad to see that it had to take Eo’s death for Darrow to see the truth with his own eyes, 500 years in slavery while everyone else was living in luxury!
Ch 10 The Carver
- [ ] Into a Gold?! Reconstruct his own body?! No wonder 97 of them didn’t survive!
Ch 11 Mad
- [ ] Darrow has guts for wanting to be a Gold. Like wow, going to the Institute sounds challenging already and they want him to command fleets?
- [ ] But I liked his demonstration at the end of his intelligence due to his hard work in the mines.
Ch 12 The Carving
- [ ] Wow, he did it. I just hope he doesn’t change who he is on the inside
- [ ] I liked how he protected Evey at the end. At least he still has some humanity in him

I agree with your thoughts on how aggravating and horrible the class division in the book is, it’s really heartbreaking to see, and I can’t wait for Darrow to break the chains! And yes, the way he ate the card was totally genius, I would’ve been so stuck haha. I also loved his display of genius and the way he showed what the mines have taught him!
I have to say, this whole transformation from red to gold sounds crazy! I didn’t realise that there is actually a biological difference between reds and golds, that makes it even more likely for the golds to remain superior and consistently cut down any rebellions. I can’t believe Darrow has just been changed into a whole different person, I can’t even imagine that! And this carver dude is super creepy, I hope he leaves Evey alone after Darrow’s threat.

Yes! That is very true, good thought. It reminds me of District 12 and the Capitol from THG. It makes sense why they would keep Reds under these lies to stop any rebellions. Nice Darcey

- [ ] Great at dancing but fails horse riding 😂😂
Ch 15 The Testing
- [ ] Oh my goodness all these tests! I would properly fail most of them, if not all. I mean he can hold his breath for 10 mins! I can barely hold it in for 10 seconds!
- [ ] Ooo second appearance of the same girl! Who is she? Maybe she went through the same tests too
- [ ] I really just want to get to the part where he is in the Institute, like come on now, more action please!
Ch 16 The Institute
- [ ] Wow, so much protocols and procedures to follow, sounds exhausting
- [ ] Good thing he passed it all too
- [ ] Also I am liking that he is respecting his uncle more each time he remembers what he was taught from him
- [ ] Julian seems nice but that Servo kid is weird to say it kindly haha
- [ ] I like the idea of the Houses, reminds a lot of Lore and the bloodlines. I wonder what House Darrow will be in
- [ ] It is horrible to see how they are encouraging class division, “men are not created equal” that is an awful society to live in!
- [ ] I felt Darrow’s anger when Augustus spoke about Eo’s death, a small part of me really wanted Darrow to slit his throat
Ch 17 The Draft
- [ ] I am confused what are they doing here? Why are they being chosen? Is it to join a House?
Ch 18 Classmates
- [ ] Looks like a variety of people are in his House
- [ ] I liked the twins moments where they discussing Darrow is in fact a Yorkton, thought that was cool
- [ ] But I feel for Darrow, no family, no personality, no home. Pretending to be someone he is not but still has to do it
Ch 19 The Passage
- [ ] WHAT?!? No! No no no, they can’t make them fight!!
- [ ] AHHHH WHY DID THEY HAVE TO DO THAT TO POOR DARROW!
- [ ] I liked Julian! He was so nice to Darrow! How dare the Protactor forced Darrow to kill him!
- [ ] Oh man when Cassius finds out he will be furious

yeah Matteo was hilarious!! and yeah, it's really interesting to see the differences between social classes that you don't think of, like language, manners, personality, etc.
Dancer is a LowRed as well, i'm pretty sure, but Darrow thinks that he's Ares. i don't think so.... i reckon there will be a big reveal for who Ares is.
ahh yeah i'm also excited for the institute, the book was progressing kinda slowly for a while there, but i'm sure it'll pick up. and yeah, i'm curious about that girl who keeps reappearing, and same, i would 100% fail those tests!
you're so right, the Houses also remind of me of Lore haha. i guessed that Darrow would be put into the violent house... he fits the type haha. and i reckon Sevro (he's the copper, yeah?) will play a bigger part. i'm excited!

I KNOWWW poor Julian, the poor sweetheart deserved better. rip Julian, and rip Darrow's innocence! i guess Darrow has truly turned into a good person doing bad things now....
i can't wait to see what happens next! that's a pretty brutal test... first being beaten up then forced to fight to the death... i definitely underestimated this institute haha, i thought it would be all prissy and posh.

Matteo is just amazing in my opinion. Him and Dancer did wonders for Darrow and how much he progressed into become a Gold. It is weird to see Darrow and his personality switch. Like he was only a LowRed for like a couple of chapters but he suits more being a Red than Gold. Hopefully they don't discover his treachery
Yeah I wonder who Ares could be, but you are right, it probably isn't Dancer. Can't wait to find out!

Yep it was definitely getting a little slow there, I think he stretched out Darrow lessons and perfecting him a little too much for my liking, like I get it, it took him months to be a Gold but please pick up the pace haha
Glad it did by the end of this part, so hopefully from here it's a lot more intense and fast paced :D

I know right! It's like they're entering a gang or something, prove your worth and everything, pretty intense. Hahah yes the institute isn't as it seems. HAHAH could you imagine if it was? A challenge to see who could serve tea the fastest yet with elegance, or eat their 7 course meal with the right cutlery with grace and speed XD I could just imagine Darrow's face watching it all!!
