So... I've finished it. There's so much to discuss, a lot of frustration to let out, but the biggest question is:

WHY?

What's even the point of this book? And as the Reveler said: It's pointless.

That's the feeling at the end. A big pile of nada. A whole lot of nothing.



I read the last 5 chapters twice and still got nothing. Honestly. I'm lost.

As far as I understand, at the beginning of the book, there's a hint of why Zeus punished the Gods, which is never confirmed.

Later there's also a hint of what the Gods are supposed to do to (view spoiler)[ get out of the Agon (sacrifice something they really want apparently) which is also never confirmed. (hide spoiler)]

There's NO EXPLANATION WHATSOEVER about why (view spoiler)[ Castor and Lore simply cease to be gods. Is Zeus watching everything? (hide spoiler)] If yes, what a sadistic sonovabitch. And again, if yes, does he realized that the Agon did not only punished the gods but literally (view spoiler)[generations of families plus the bystanders throughout the centuries (because, hey, I'm guessing the bunch of police officers and unrelated people who died this Agon where not the first unassociated people to die). (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[WHAT HAPPENED TO THE OTHER GODS? Are they back in Olympia? Are they dead-dead? Are they in Hades? (hide spoiler)] JUST GIVE ME THE WHOLE PICTURE.

Lore and Castor (view spoiler)[didn't go to regular school if I got it right. How are they gonna find jobs without a diploma? Do they even know how to do math? (lol, I'm kidding... Or am I?) But seriously, the explanation of how the Houses work is horrible. I mean, there must be people there who studied and worked right? For, you know, funds and weapons and bribing half a city and the international press every Agon. (hide spoiler)]

What's the point in passing the powers to the humans so they can become gods? If it's about a lesson to the gods, why keep on creating more gods?? Or only the original ones matter and the new ones just got their powers to make like harder on the ones who hadn't died first?

This book almost put me in a slump, and it wasn't even good. I'm sad. And confused. The characters were mostly, meh. I thought there would be a lot of fights, but excluding the last one (and even that one was quite short) most of the confrontation was... very short.

I know this is fantasy, but you gotta at least make me believe the situations you're proposing to me feel possible in your book. A lot of them didn't. A child who got the super-rare treasure and went back to the crime scene within the same hour it stole it and was not caught? ) (hide spoiler)] At least it looks good. lol.

omg i finally finished it. phew! i had very high expectations and boi was i disappointed 2.5 stars! it was just your average ya fantasy

Yeah, very average with little to no explanation, or world-building. It's not a short book, why not try to avoid unnecessary things and focus and giving us the full picture of the world she imagined???

i agree with both of you, this wasn't anything special, it's 3.5 stars from me :((
