There are various sources depending on where you get your insights claiming the take-up of eBooks has sharply increased since the onset of Pandemic, as people get through lockdowns. Well, let us not dwell too much on that side of news, but more about why it should make good sense for everyone to embrace eMaterial such as eBooks, eMagazines and audiobooks into their lives.

Technical application is no excuse.

Once upon a time, there were technical barriers with using eMaterial, and unless you had a dedicated eBook reader such as Nook or kindle there was not a lot of point in going into eMaterial. Well, the world is no longer like that, things have moved on. If you have a mobile phone, either on Android or iOS systems, then you already have the capability to read eMaterial and listen to audiobooks. Apple phones have an iBook and iTunes as standard apps. iBook can display about any eBook format on the planet and has formidable features. Not to be left out, because iTunes was designed to manage both video and audio.

But even if you do not have an iPhone, you can easily install a free copy of Calibre on your android phone, PC or MAC which is arguably the best eBook utility program anywhere, and her presto you eBook book enabled. Vendors like www.ibookhive are moving forward with a business model that ensures customers own and control the content, irrespective of their systems with affordable pricing.

I prefer a physical book.

There is something about having the physical book in your hand or stacked up on a shelf, for one it looks good, and you can quickly see what you have been reading. However, that is about all that physical books have over eBooks or eMagazines. Everything you can do with a book you can do with an eBook, and for those who wear reading glasses, the benefits are immense (Try that with a book). Remember moving to eBooks does not have to be a straight swap from physical to electronic. Most people who use eBooks have gone for a phased approach. For instance, you may still want to read you fiction novel as traditional book, but how about all that technical and work material you have, can you carry that with you everywhere.

eBooks help us to save the planet.

Publishing and reading books are very important for humanity, but it is not that good for our planet and nature, too. You must realise by now that producing paper and publishing printed books requires cutting down trees and destroying forests on our planet. An incident in 2010 when a novel written by Jonathan Franzen had a few innocent typographical errors after printing. Because of that, 80,000 copies were recalled, destroyed, and reprinted with the errors fixed. That is happening at the expense of trees. At some level we should be asking a question – “how harmful are traditional books for the environment?” If that does not move, you just look at the following statistics:

• It takes one large tree to making 60 books!

• Around 2.5 million books are published each year.

• In 2008, the publishing industry in the USA razed down 125 million trees, with only a 10% of that number replanted.

• 125 million trees = 40 million metric tons CO2 which is the equivalent of the yearly CO2 emissions of over 7 million cars!

Carry your library with you!

The best thing about eBooks is that they are portable, lightweight and you can carry them whenever you go Instead of packing a small library with you wherever you go. You will not have to worry about storage space because you can still pack the entire works of Shakespeare, and get to enjoy all your favourite magazines, and still finish off with a different great bedtime story read you every night for the rest of your life, on one storage unit.

Affordable price.

We all know that eBooks are cheaper that traditional books, but have you really examined how much cheaper, and how much you can really save? Look at www.ibookhive and see the difference. Its remarkable because $10 can get you 2 bestselling novels, a high-end audiobook and copy of a magazine. You do not need to spend much to have your books anymore.

Night reading.

Have you ever read a book with a bad print? You must have seen pages that are almost unreadable. And imagine reading that book at night? E readers allow you to adjust the brightness of the screen according to the time of the day and depending upon your preferences! You can switch on dark mode reading, so the lights will not strain your eyes. You can also change the size of the book’s font, so you will not have to search for glasses or turn on the lights.

Listening to the book.

Traditional printed books serve only for reading, but you can listen to the eBooks. They are designed with text to speech or read aloud features. You can listen to the eBooks if they are too busy to read it, for example, while driving, cooking, or enjoying a bath. What is more, eBooks with this feature are great for children and adults with a learning disability or with visual impairment. They are making the reading accessible for everyone.

They last longer.

Wondering why eBooks are the best tech gifts? It is because they are affordable in the long run. Of course, you will have to pay the price of the device itself, but in the long run, the cost will not be higher than buying newly printed books. eBooks cost much less than printed books because there is
