When Sebastian learns of the massive corruption perpetrated by the East End magistrates and the two major breweries, he also believes that Jarvis had to be aware of the schemes. After the first attempt on Sebastian’s life, did you think it might be beyond Jarvis’ involvement or important enough that even he thought Sebastian expendable?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 242 comments I'm always suspicious of Jarvis. When the Jarvis talked about the the brewery owners supporting the war, I thought he would support them getting rid of Sebastian.

I don't understand how a man who obviously loves his daughter, could plot against the man she loves so much. He can see that she is happy.

I can’t remember the book but earlier in this series Jarvis wasn’t above doing Sebastian in. However, now that Simon is here, I think he’s got a new perspective on that. I wasn’t sure of his awareness of the initial attempts but felt more like it wasn’t something he sanctioned.

Jo Ann (jojog) | 72 comments Jarvis has such obvious contempt for Sebastian but, because of Hero and Simon, is becoming just a tad more tolerant. I think Jarvis holds back from helping Sebastian, but doesn't go out of his way anymore to block Sebastian's efforts in crime solving.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 242 comments You both have a point. Maybe Jarvis isn't as angry with Sebastian now that he isn't with Kat. Kat has dangerous connections that Sebastian could have used against Jarvis.

Speaking of Kat--Cousin Victoria's comments were meant to hurt Hero even if Hero didn't see it in her eyes.

Oh, that’s an interesting angle on Kat. I hadn’t considered that was what was beneath a lot of Jarvis’ contempt for Sebastian.

Oh, I think Hero believed Victoria was trying to hurt her but was trying to talk herself out of that point of view.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 242 comments Good point. Hero is trying to convince herself that Victoria isn't evil.
