Paula Reyes Wagner (paurw) | 1073 comments Hello!!
Welcome to Tower Teams, have you played before?

I'm Paula, I'm from Chile and my native language is spanish but I read books in english too. I work in mining consultancy and right now I'm working from home (due to lockdown).
I haven't read the Discworld books, but I think I'll be joining the Mort's BOM in june, I hope to like it hahah.

For those who haven't created a TT shelf yet, please do and link it here. Thank you!

I'm sure we'll have a great time

message 9: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Buzzard | 173 comments Yay!

Hi, I'm Jess. I've never played before and had this recommended to me from an UNO teammate. I live in Missouri and am a social worker for Children's Division. I've never even HEARD of Discworld...but I just got the May BOTM from the library.

Go team

message 10: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh | 735 comments Hi team! So excited to get started on this year's TT! I've taken part in a couple of these as a regular team player and a captain/co-captain, but this year wanted to take it easy :)

My shelf is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

message 11: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Buzzard | 173 comments So as I've never played this before...how do you decide where a book is placed? between the tasks, bingo, and the story?

Also for tracking what do you guys prefer? Do we post in here or on the spreadsheet.

Sorry if I'm jumping the gun lol. Just still in game mode with UNO

message 12: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments Hi Everyone! I'm Melissa from the Philadelphia suburbs, PA. I've played TT a few times as both Captain and Co-Captain. It's been a couple of years since I've played and I'm excited to be a Co-Captain! I'm pretty sure I sent a friend request to everyone but if I missed someone please let me know (or just friend me :D )

I read nearly everything but Fantasy, Thriller/Mystery, and Historical Fiction are my favorite. I've never heard of Discworld either but I'm going to dive in starting with The Color of Magic (I know I've been warned against the first 2 books but my OCD won't let me start anywhere else LOL )

I'm finishing up UNO as well Jessica and am still in planning/game mode!

I'm sure Paula will let us all know how she wants the books completed posted. :)

I know everyone is different but for me I usually only plan on the book I'm reading, which is usually just one maybe two at a time, and possibly the one after that. I don't like to grab too many spots in case someone else can cover something. This way I can plan my reads based on what is actually available. Since it's a 3 month challange I assume we should be able to cover most of the spots. We will probably go with the highest point tasks first is my guess.

Edit: helpful if the link actually works

message 14: by Tone (new)

Tone Bardal | 146 comments Hello everyone! My name is Tone, and I'm from Norway. I am currently writing my master thesis in Business (Finance) and only have like 6 weeks until I'm graduated! This is my first ever TT, and I'm still a little confused, but I hope I'll get the hang of it eventually. I've never read any Discworld either, but I'm joining Mort, and I've also acquired a few other Discworld books :)

I mostly read in English and my favorites are Fantasy, YA, historical fiction and any book with LGBTQ+ content is always welcome!

I think my shelf is already linked above, but here it is again :)

message 15: by Sixty (new)

Sixty (sixtyone) | 311 comments Hello, everyone! I'm Sixty, I live in California and I have a lot of crayfish. Discworld is one of those series that I keep meaning to get to, but still haven't! I have not played TT before, but I did play in a different team challenge last summer.

I'm looking forward to having fun with you all!

Gem ~ZeroShelfControl~ (zeroshelfcontrol) | 441 comments Hi everyone, hey sixty!!
I’m gem, I live in England and work an office 9-5 job.
I’ve not played TT before but I needed something to cure my annual UNO hangover!!
I’m on a year long book ban (September-September) so I’m enjoying reading everything Ive had on my shelves in forever and had otherwise abandoned! Never heard of discworld before and I’m not a fantasy fan so might be avoiding them unfortunately.
Looking forward to spending the next 3 months with you all :)

message 17: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 2127 comments Hey everyone :)

Lovely to meet you all! Glad to see I won't be the only one in Europe time zones :D

This is my 3rd TT (I think). I haven't read discworld either, never even heard of it, but can't wait to start!

Oh, here is the shelf - https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

message 18: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments It's nice that we seem to be all over the world!

Congrats Tone! That is the best feeling in the world knowing all your hard work paid off and it is finally over!

So excited for all the new TT players. I've found that it's easiest to understand by looking at the spreadsheet. I usually don't get the rules by reading them LOL Some can be confusing for sure. If anyone has any questions please let us know. :)

message 19: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (pilaryk2) | 182 comments Hi everyone,

My name is Andrea, I am from Colombia. I am a chemical engineer and work on a process design company.
I have never played TT and just this year started playing UNO, I enjoyed it a lot since it allowed me to read a lot of books that had been on my TBR list for a while.
I read a bit of everything but mostly fantasy, science fiction, YA and historical fiction.
I read The Color of Magic, but did not enjoy it as much, however I have heard the series gets better after the third book. I plan on reading the second one and join the BOM reading.

Looking forward to reading alongside you guys

Andrea I'm a Chemical Engineer too!

message 21: by Paula (new)

Paula Reyes Wagner (paurw) | 1073 comments I see that several of you come from the UNO challenge too, that's how I first came to TT like 4 years ago I think, and every year I wait for it to be announced haha.
You'll discover this is a simple challenge, except for the special tasks, but basically al you need to do is read as much as you can ahahaha.

Do you plan your books for the month in anticipation?

message 22: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments My plan revolves around what I can get from the library most of the time so I’m usually somewhat flexible.

message 23: by Tone (new)

Tone Bardal | 146 comments I’m a big mood reader so I was just planning to mostly read like normal, and then see what points the book can get.

message 24: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Buzzard | 173 comments I kinda do both. For UNO at least I've been pretty good at finding stuff on my TBR to match tasks. So I've been knocking a lot of my stuff of doing that method

Mamacita aka MawMaw (mamawantsbedtimestory) | 441 comments I'm here!!! Sorry. I've been at the grandbabies house & have been super busy.

I’m Mama & live in Texas. I've only played Tower Teams once before? Are we gonna use a Google Spreadsheet or how are ya'll planning on tracking besides shelves?
Mama's Tower Team

Also a big mood reader but usually plan what I'm gonna wanna read soon like in the next week or so. Usually read a book in 2-3 days depending on length & what I've got going on IRL. I only read Romance & mainly read PNR, HR OR Rom Suspense. I've never even HEARD of Discworld either.

Melissa | 3779 comments Hi Team Rob Anybody! We would love some recommendations!

Here are some of my favorites:
The Scent Keeper
Darkfever (first book is a little slow but the rest of the series is amazing!)
All the Missing Girls
Between Shades of Gray

message 28: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments I’m sure we’ll have a Google sheet for tracking! Seems like that is the easiest way to keep track of all the places a book fits.

message 29: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Buzzard | 173 comments Some of mine..

Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate
Ritualist (The Completionist Chronicles, #1) by Dakota Krout (my absolute favorite litRPG series and author)

And obviously all of the HP books 😉

message 30: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (sharon_alexandr) | 544 comments Hi everyone! I'm Sharon from Northeast Pennsylvania (near the Poconos) where I live with my husband and two dogs. During the day, I am the Director of a Community Foundation.

This is my second time playing TT and I'm really looking forward to it again this year. These challenges always help me increase my reading and I need it. I've been in a bit of a pandemic slump the last few months :(

I rely a lot on the library, so I don't plan too far out in advance but I can try to pitch in wherever is needed.

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

message 31: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Buzzard | 173 comments OMG SHARON! I'm from The Poconos!! I moved to Missouri a few years back for school and then moved to Stl.

Melissa | 1895 comments Hello! I am Melissa W. I can go by Mel to distinguish the two Melissa's if you'd like :) I am a middle school teacher in Vermont. This year, I teach science, but I usually teach Language Arts (reading, writing, spelling) and science, and that's what I'll teach again next year.
I am very excited to be reading with people from so many different occupations and nationalities.
I read a little bit of just about everything. I've been pairing fiction and non-fiction lately, but I have a slog of fiction I'm behind on. I like mysteries, non-fiction, historical fiction, generational stories, romance, zombies, YA, happy pet books, really just about anything. The only type of fiction I have come across that I don't usually care for is dark academia, or books without a strong female character in there somewhere.
I have not done a TT challenge before. I have done a few challenges - one was called a Wheel-a-Thon. I've heard so much about the TT challenge! I'm really looking forward to it.
I'm going to finish up my books for April, and check out the rules in more depth. I have spring break this week, but tomorrow it's supposed to snow (!) so I'm going to hide inside and pretend it's not.

I'd like to read The Foundling and Equal Rites. I've never read a Discworld book, but my cousin likes them, I think, and it would be good conversation material.

message 34: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments I can write some questions for the BOMs. Where do we sign up for those?

message 35: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments Hi Melissa (Mel)! It’s not usual to be around another Melissa (for me at least LOL) I go by Melis or Mel sometimes too :)

If you go to the main NBRC page under the BOM section click the thread for whatever book you want to write DQs for. Once it’s open you can just post that you volunteer to write DQs. If you prefer a specific group of questions ( first day, last day, etc) you can ask. The Mods try to accommodate usually if they can. It’s not always possible especially during TT.

message 36: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3779 comments I can post the link tomorrow when I’m on the computer if you having trouble finding it.

I am a big mood reader, but I normally try to keep up to date with the new releases of series or authors I have been reading for a while. I usually try to look in my TBR list to see what works for challenges and special tasks.
