1. May 1. May Day is an ancient festival of spring. The sun is warming, the birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming, and the garden is growing.

2. May 3. The Kentucky Derby is a famous horse race held on the first Saturday in May. One tradition is the wearing of hats which symbolizes the bringing of good luck.
Read a book where a character has a good luck charm OR wears a hat on the cover of the book.

3. May 9. Mother's Day is a celebration honoring the mother of the family as well as the influence of mothers in society.
Read a book with a Mother as the main character.

4. May 31. Memorial Day is for honoring and mourning the military personnel who have died in the performance of their duties while serving in the United States Armed Forces. It is also considered the unofficial start of summer.
