Consider the setting. Why do you think the author chooses to set the book on an island? How does the island setting reflect A.J.’s character?

Kirtley (kluney) A.J. is very isolated and cut off from others since the death of his wife. He is also restricted and rigid about what he will read and what he will stock in his bookstore. At the beginning he is very closed and defensive.
