Sean is taken to Joseph and Nicole’s location where they’re joined by her aunt, Elise and Tobias. Your thoughts about that scene, including Sean and Kate’s orchestration of his escape?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments Good thing they had a backup plan since they made Sean dump his watch and anything else where he could be wearing a tracker.

The plan wasn't bad. I would just worry that by the time Sean contacted Kate and she could ping the computer to see where he was at...there might not be enough time to get to him. Also, there were eight guards on the grounds outside. It would be very hard for SWAT to infiltrate the property and break in before the bad guys would panic and kill Sean. Yes, they cut the outside security cameras, but as soon as Joseph noticed that the pictures were blank, he turned the gun on Sean.

It was risky but they also knew this group’s patterns. They pulled it off pretty well but, you’re right, Sean almost died. But, he did his job in creating a distraction from the blank screens. It was Elise who acted up and had them look that way again.

The thing I liked about the scene from start to finish was how utterly crazy this family was. That came across clearly and we could also see that Joseph and Nicole were going to eventually take complete control. I think they had plans to kill off Maggie and Tobias. But, these were some screwed up people.

Melissa (melissasd) | 676 comments That family is dysfunctional. The plan was good but dangerous. There were so many people there who could have seen what was going on. And they would have had no problem shooting Sean.
I think you're right, Jonetta. I'm pretty sure Nicole and Joseph would have terminated the others.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I agree Jonetta. I was actually surprised they didn't try to take out Maggie and Tobias earlier in the book.

Joseph had to wait on Nicole. They were getting ready to take off with the $23 million and were surprised when Maggie showed up. I believe they would have knocked off Tobias and sent someone to kill Maggie.

Do you think Nicole knew they had killed her mother? Do you think she cared?

Melissa (melissasd) | 676 comments If she did know I'm sure she didn't care. Her only loyalty was to Joseph and herself. Although I do feel like she may have had some loyalty toward her uncle.

She was extremely loyal to Jimmy for some reason. She also seemed to be somewhat protective of Elise, even though she thought she was crazy.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I think Nicole knew her mother was killed by the family and probably agreed with it. She was so cold and didn't seem to blame anyone for her mother's death.

I think you’re right, Robin.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments These people were nuts! I can't believe they survived as a crime organization for so long. Nicole and Joseph were clearly to smartest of the bunch and I'm sure that after they got the money they were going to kill everyone else. Sean and Kate were brilliant and the backup plan worked.

I loved what Sean and Kate cooked up. It was brilliant.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I like the plan except they aren't sure how tech savvy the group is. There are a few times that Nicole or Elise almost caught on to that something is off with his transmission.

I believe Lucy would be more controlled if she knew the plan. I disagree with Sean that she would go to the house. She is an agent. Kate, Jack, Hans, et. al. are all people that Lucy respects and trusts, they could talk her down from her initial fear.
