Shelby Foxworth lost her husband. Then she lost her illusions …

The man who took her from Tennessee to an exclusive Philadelphia suburb left her in crippling debt. He was an adulterer and a liar, and when Shelby tracks down his safe-deposit box, she finds multiple IDs. The man she loved wasn’t just dead. He never really existed.

Shelby takes her three-year-old daughter and heads south to seek comfort in her hometown, where she meets someone new: Griff Lott, a successful contractor. But her husband had secrets she has yet to discover. Even in this small town, surrounded by loved ones, danger is closer than she knows—and threatens Griff, as well. And an attempted murder is only the beginning …

This is one of my favorites! Robin, it’s great on audio.

Robin (robinmy) | 989 comments I'll have to see if the library has the audio available for this one.

January LaVoy is the narrator and it was my first time listening to her. I was so impressed I wrote that in my review.

Robin (robinmy) | 989 comments Oh, I really like her. She was one of the narrators on The Night Swim. Very impressive.

Erin (tesserin) | 406 comments I like January Lavoy too. She’s narrating Legacy too. I’m excited to read & listen to it

Carly (carmeer) | 37 comments just started about 100 pages in. I was hooked from the first page which is usually what happens with Nora Roberts.

This one has a great start, too.

Carly (carmeer) | 37 comments almost done loved it.

Barbara "Cookie" Serfaty Williams (goodreadscomcookiew1801) | 689 comments Finish it yesterday. Did not remember it until the second chapter. I forget the end and I love it 😻

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 342 comments I loved this one and the audio was fantastic!

Carly (carmeer) | 37 comments i figured out the twist in the first chapter when it was mentioned (view spoiler)

Carly (carmeer) | 37 comments I do wish it was a series so Shelby's brother Forrest gets a story. I loved the southern charm running throughout the book and there was enough suspense to keep everyone on their toes.

I thought Forrest was a wonderful character too. He definitely should have his own book. Maybe more murder and mayhem will come to this small town in the future. ;)

Robin (robinmy) | 989 comments I enjoyed the book and the setting. I guessed the surprise twist early on in the book, but it didn't take anything away from the story. I like that NR writes strong female characters. Shelby was prepared to take care of her daughter and take on her husband's debt. That would be tough.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 7081 comments Mod
NR really does write independent women in her stories, which is a big draw for me, too.

I’ve given up hoping that Nora will ever create connected stories arising from her standalones. I’m left with making stuff up😏

Carly (carmeer) | 37 comments I always love NR strong female characters. if the same thing happened to me that happened to shelby, I would curl up in a fetal position and cry. I would not know what to do.
