Classic Trash discussion

I am doing the audiobook, so it's gonna take a bit. The reader is great!

Oh, this would make a great audiobook! I am enjoying it. I had a little trouble getting used to the author's "telling" instead of "showing" the background stories, but once the story gets to the World War II era, things really pick up.

I also like the very beginning, showing all the different characters gathering for the court trial. It really pulls you in, wondering what part each character plays in the story.

I’m about a quarter of the way through and this is the fastest I remember reading a book in a long time. Can’t put it down!

The book is Classic Trash for a reason, lol. I had heard alot of people say what a page-turner it is.

Chapter 8 was riveting, but the whole thing is, really.

I agree! Noelle can be your worst enemy, or she can put her own life on the line to help a friend. I wouldn't want to get on her bad side, though.

I love all these characters who are like massive black holes who suck everything into their orbit. Somehow they’re depicted so convincingly.

Isn’t Noelle Constantin’s mistress? (He’s still married, but his wife looks the other way.) Larry, as an employee, probably doesn’t have alot of face-to- face time with Constantin’s mistress, and maybe she’s not in public as much as the wife is.

As for recognizing Noelle, Larry hasn’t thought about her in years. He’s a love ‘em and leave ‘em guy, and probably can’t remember every woman he’s had a “serious relationship” with.

I guess it’s a little unbelievable, but Noelle has also changed some from the girl he knew in Paris. Noelle has been obsessed with Larry for years, but Larry probably just changed his mind about marrying Noelle back then and never gave her a second thought. I guess we’re just supposed to believe he’s so egotistical and self-centered that as soon as the woman is out of his sight, she’s also completely erased from his mind. (hide spoiler)]

Just finished Book Two, and I’m so upset that (view spoiler)[Noelle is in love with Larry again. Where was the revenge I was promised?? Unless she’s going to somehow ensure that he goes to jail for Catherine’s death? (hide spoiler)]

Yes, it is kind of disappointing that Noelle changed her mind. However, the ending will be satisfying. (I finished the book.)

I feel like I am not dedicating enough of my time to vengeance. What am I even doing with my life!?!

I think back when the book was written, that love/hate relationship was kind of a popular thing in trash fiction and soap operas. Today, it’s alot less believable.

It may be trash, but at least it's not boring.

There is a sequel to this book: Memories of Midnight Spoilers are in the plot description, so beware.

A movie was made of The Other Side of Midnight, and a tv miniseries was made of the sequel. You can find info at Wikipedia and IMDB, and you can watch clips at YouTube. Lots of spoilers, of course, so wait until you're done reading the book.

I am a little over halfway through and enjoying my leisurely pace. The sex scenes make me laugh. Larry is very manly I guess.
